Description

Set on the edge of the bustling village in rolling countryside, Penny Cottage is a comfortable holiday hideaway.

Set on the edge of the bustling village of High Littleton in rolling Somerset countryside, Penny Cottage dates back to 1860. This holiday hideaway lies just nine miles from the centre of Bath , the jewel of Southwest England, and ten miles from Bristol with its scores of cultural and historical attractions. The terraced cottage was christened during renovations, when the owners found a couple of old pennies under the floorboards. More old pennies from charity and antique shops dating from 1863 have been added and put up in frames around the cottage. There are now 10 of them. Numerous public footpaths branch out from the village. A short walk up the lane toward Mearns puts you on the path to the nearby pretty village of Timsbury, and takes in great views of the rolling countryside. The Greyfield Colliery, which once stood on the other side of the village from Penny Cottage, has left its name to Greyfield’s Wood, a beautiful and well-cared for Woodland Trust site that conceals a secret waterfall, sometimes jokingly referred to as the Niagara Falls of Somerset. Also within easy reach are the cathedral town of Wells, atmospheric Glastonbury, the geological wonders of Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge, the beauties of the Chew Valley and the Mendip Hills, plus a host of English villages such as Chew Magna, Pensford, Timsbury and Bishop Sutton. Shops, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

Overall quite satisfied and would probably return. Shortfalls were upstairs radiators were noisy and ineffective due to air. Insufficient food storage space in kitchen cupboards and fridge. 3rd bedroom lacked any wardrobes and drawers. Folding shower door needs fixing. Internet unreliable.

Spacious and cosy house, clean and well laid out inside. Only two negatives being, path from where you park car at rear, to rear door to house, poorly lit, could do with a light of some kind, timer or sensor light fixed to garage wall, aimed at stepping stone pathway towards gate and back door, would be great! Other was lack of water pressure on power meaning reliant on the one bathroom. Otherwise, pleased for what we paid, quite, warm, well equipped, little store 5 minute walk, Bath 25 minute drive, lush pub restaurant ' The Hunters Rest 10 minute drive.

Fantastic cottage, the cleanest we have ever stayed in and my daughter (5) loved the toys and puzzles. We had a very restful stay. The owner was helpful and the neighbours friendly. The only reason I have given a nine is the wifi; a really slow speed and the BT hub wouldn't allow us to upload small images while we were away. If rectified would be 10s all around.

Lovely cottage two double rooms good size but smaller room a bit of a squeeze with two beds. Also both beds were like camp beds. Not comfortable for an adult. Definitely need to unload car from front of house if arriving in the dark. Garden quite steep.

Lovely cottage, comfortable and clean There was a slight problem for us as we had elderly parents (both needing walking aids) and there was no mention that entrance from the front was direct from the road with no footpath and access from the back was via a slope and stepping stones - lighting in both areas was poor at night

We had a lovely stay, it was perfect for a small gathering of friends for walking and chilling out. The woodburner was perfect for warming up after soggy days out. The pub in the village was welcoming and took dogs.

Clear instructions to the property, Very clean and comfortable, in a great location. A couple of 100m walk to catch a bus into Bath. We travelled to Wookey Hole and the Cheddar Caves for some great walks with a dog, the traditional family run tea shop in Cheddar is highly recommended (inc a selection of gluten free selection of cakes and scones!).

Penny Cottage was a beautiful place to stay. There was a lovely pub to go and eat in called the star. the fish and chip shop was gorgeous. you are actually not far from Bath, Cheddar Gorge, Wells and Glastonbury. There are 2 lovely beaches near by. The Cottage was absolutely spotlessly clean, every thing you needed was there and wifi worked fantastic.

We were very comfortable at Penny Cottage - it was beautifully furnished for a family holiday & a lot of thought had gone into providing everything ,including dvds, toys and hairdryers -it felt very homely & my 2-year-old grand-daughter managed the stairs with no trouble. She and her 8-year-old sister loved their bedroom! The beds in the double rooms were extremely comfortable. Good location - we were able to visit lots of interesting places nearby, including Bath, Bradford-on-Avon, Wookey Hole, Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury & Stonehenge as well as walking in the woods nearby, where we found the local equivalent of Niagara Falls!

My family and I loved penny cottage. It was very clean and a lovely village to stay in, with its very handy shop that sold most things and a great pub. We had trouble with the wifi at the beginning of the week, but spoke to the owner who straight away got it connected for us The mattress in the master bedroom was very comfortable and would have loved to know the name of it as we need a new one, my daughter found the other bed very hard. We would recommend this cottage and would also stay again.
