Description

Set on the edge of the bustling village in rolling countryside, Penny Cottage is a comfortable holiday hideaway.

Set on the edge of the bustling village of High Littleton in rolling Somerset countryside, Penny Cottage dates back to 1860. This holiday hideaway lies just nine miles from the centre of Bath , the jewel of Southwest England, and ten miles from Bristol with its scores of cultural and historical attractions. The terraced cottage was christened during renovations, when the owners found a couple of old pennies under the floorboards. More old pennies from charity and antique shops dating from 1863 have been added and put up in frames around the cottage. There are now 10 of them. Numerous public footpaths branch out from the village. A short walk up the lane toward Mearns puts you on the path to the nearby pretty village of Timsbury, and takes in great views of the rolling countryside. The Greyfield Colliery, which once stood on the other side of the village from Penny Cottage, has left its name to Greyfield’s Wood, a beautiful and well-cared for Woodland Trust site that conceals a secret waterfall, sometimes jokingly referred to as the Niagara Falls of Somerset. Also within easy reach are the cathedral town of Wells, atmospheric Glastonbury, the geological wonders of Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge, the beauties of the Chew Valley and the Mendip Hills, plus a host of English villages such as Chew Magna, Pensford, Timsbury and Bishop Sutton. Shops, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

Ground floor: Living room with beams. Dining room/kitchen with French doors. Utility room. Separate toilet. First floor: 3 bedrooms: 2 double (5ft), 1 single with additional pull-out guest bed. Bathroom with shower over bath (no toilet). Shower room with toilet.

Lovely cottage nice village and some good walks. Wifi and mobile service rather infrequent best in morning and top of back garden will catch mobile network most of the time. The owners thought of everything to make one comfortable while on holiday. Their attention to detail in the cottage was excellent. Their information folder covered everything. Definitely would be back and highly recommend the cottage. We were a party of four adults, a 2 and 5 year old 👍

The best equipped and cleanest cottage we've stayed in. Well situated for some great days out - eg Bath, Wells, Glastonbury & Bristol. Nearby Midsomer Norton & Radstock have some pleasant walks along old railway lines and there's a good local museum at Radstock. The cottage is well away from the busy main road through High Littleton. The village does have two reasonable shops, one of which includes a post office.

Lovely well appointed cottage in a tucked away position off the main road in a small village which gives you a good pub, fish & chip shop, P.O and a small local shop. An ideal base to visit the area, Wells, Bristol, Bath and Cheddar all within 30 mins drive away and the coast approx 1 hour away, footpaths from the door and fields/woods to walk the dogs make Penny Cottage ideal if you have dogs. The wood burning stove made the cottage warm and cosy and was greatly appreciated, comfortable furnishings including beds and a well equipped kitchen made our stay most enjoyable and we would not hesitate to stay at Penny Cottage in the future.

Excellent value, very nice cottage. It was clean, cosy and exactly what we wanted. Lots of useful extras, especially for our dogs. We would recommend Penny Cottage to anyone, and we would definitely stay again.

I thought the cottage was a really lovely place to stay. Not far for us to travel to Bath Christmas market and other place of interest. The only thing I would say was that when we arrived and opened the cottage it did smell of dogs but apart from that a very enjoyable stay.

A really lovely cottage, well equipped, very clean. This cottage has the most comfortable beds of all the cottages we have ever stayed in. The only fault we found was that the key pad/entrance door is at the back of the property, which means you have to negotiate many steep steps , I would advise that the owners also put car parking spaces on the front garden which the neighbouring properties have done. The local pub is friendly and has good food. All the people we met were very friendly in the village. Our dogs enjoyed their walks and the garden even though it was tiered. We would go back to this property again.
