Wales Cottages

The Wales Regional Specialist -Fantastic properties in the most favourable locations. No one knows Wales better!

This holiday property sits within the Hafod Forestry Commission Estate, which occupies about 500 acres of the Ystwyth Valley.

This wonderful example of a detached, single-storey converted barn, adjacent to the owner’s home, dates back to circa 1810, and sits within the Hafod Forestry Commission Estate, which is a picturesque landscape occupying about 500 acres of the Ystwyth Valley and surrounding hills, some 15 miles inland from the Ceredigion coastline. Lovingly converted by the craftsman owner, Pendre Isa is an extremely spacious and beautifully furnished property for two people, boasting its own private decked terrace from where you can relax and enjoy the views and watch the red kites and buzzards circling overhead. From the doorstep of the barn, the estate can be explored on foot (maps are available for the five way-marked walks of varying length and difficulty) where there are streams, waterfalls and rustic bridges to discover. It provides an excellent base for exploring and taking part in activities such as canoeing, mountain biking, horse riding and walking, or just relaxing in a ‘get away from it all’ location. Nearby attractions include Devils Bridge, first built by monks in the 11th century and from where you can take the Vale of Rheidol steam train that meanders through the valley to the seaside town of Aberystwyth, the Silver Mountain Experience, an 18th-century silver-rich lead mine, and the Magic of Life Butterfly House. A 30-minute drive will bring you to the attractive coastline and all that it has to offer. An ideal holiday base.

Had a fantastic 2 weeks. Pendre Isaf seems to be used mainly by walkers and for their dogs to enjoy. Having said that we are not walkers or dog owners but the peace and tranquility of the cottage allowed us to enjoy all the wildlife from the decking. The coast is only a short drive away with lovely harbours and beaches. The scenic drives are breathtaking. We would certainly recommend.

A lovely cottage literally in the middle of deepest darkest Wales. Good facilities and dog friendly. Several local walks to experience area are excellent. Only downside is nearest shop is several miles away so go prepared!

Fantastic cottage, beautifully put together. The kitchen is tremendously equipped and the owner unobtrusively available. The location is remote but very peaceful and quiet, just be careful driving down the approach road's potholes! The bottle of wine was a nice touch.

Our second visit and as wonderful as the last time we visited in October. This is the perfect bolt-hole for those seeking complete isolation and relaxation - we saw only two other people during the whole weekend, and that was from a distance. The weather wasn't great but we were suitably equipped; nothing nicer than returning from a long hike, lighting the wood-burner and settling down with a glass of wine and a good book! We will definitely return.

Beautiful holiday cottage and location providing the perfect escape from civilisation. We took our dog with us and explored all that Haford has to offer during our week's stay including stunning waterfalls and spectacular scenery. We did plan a couple of day trips over to devils bridge and the steam train but, once we realised what Hafod had to offer, decided to abandon the car for the week and instead focus on the estate. The owners do mention the unmade road to get to the cottage in their write up but it is worth noting that it's very steep and bumpy in places! The Sat Nav also took us up and over a mountain road to get to Haford, so not sure if there was an alternative route had we been properly prepared but there were a few icy spots on the way there due to the cold spell (Feb). That said it was an amazing road on the drive back once it was a little warmer!
