Description

This holiday property sits within the Hafod Forestry Commission Estate, which occupies about 500 acres of the Ystwyth Valley.

This wonderful example of a detached, single-storey converted barn, adjacent to the owner’s home, dates back to circa 1810, and sits within the Hafod Forestry Commission Estate, which is a picturesque landscape occupying about 500 acres of the Ystwyth Valley and surrounding hills, some 15 miles inland from the Ceredigion coastline. Lovingly converted by the craftsman owner, Pendre Isa is an extremely spacious and beautifully furnished property for two people, boasting its own private decked terrace from where you can relax and enjoy the views and watch the red kites and buzzards circling overhead. From the doorstep of the barn, the estate can be explored on foot (maps are available for the five way-marked walks of varying length and difficulty) where there are streams, waterfalls and rustic bridges to discover. It provides an excellent base for exploring and taking part in activities such as canoeing, mountain biking, horse riding and walking, or just relaxing in a ‘get away from it all’ location. Nearby attractions include Devils Bridge, first built by monks in the 11th century and from where you can take the Vale of Rheidol steam train that meanders through the valley to the seaside town of Aberystwyth, the Silver Mountain Experience, an 18th-century silver-rich lead mine, and the Magic of Life Butterfly House. A 30-minute drive will bring you to the attractive coastline and all that it has to offer. An ideal holiday base.

A wonderful stay. The cottage was everything we'd hoped for our special break. Wood-burner, peace and quiet and beautiful walks right from the door - our two dogs loved it too. Will definitely return!

Absolute amazing! If you want to get away from everything then this is the place. Set inside the forest itself, the only people we saw were fellow dog lovers. Stunning scenery and very welcoming owners!

We really enjoyed our week at Pendre Isaf. There was slight confusion because the cottage had changed ownership literally at the last moment and we were concerned that we hadn't had proper contact with the owner, but the new owners turned up to meet us and were very helpful. Excellent barn conversion and a lovely peaceful place to stay with spectacular countryside and only forty minutes from Aberystwyth.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely cottage. The Hafod estate has a lovely history to it, and the work by the forestry commission to re-instate the original 18th century walks through the estate must be commended. The cottage is great, and has everything you need. Warm, comfortable and very clean. Everything provided for your four-legged friend too! Owners were on hand but not obtrusive. If walking in bluebell woods, or along riversides watching wildlife is your thing, then heading back to a cosy cottage with a bottle of wine to enjoy, you will love this place! However, when we stayed in May, the ticks were a massive problem for our dog. Ensure prior treatment!
