Customers’ Choice Award 2016, 2017 & 2018
After a day spent exploring the Yorkshire Dales or the Moors, relax with a drink on the patio or by the cosy woodburner.

This detached, delightful barn conversion sits in the grounds of the owner’s beautiful Tudor house which dates back to 1450. The property has been skillfully converted into a characterful holiday cottage, with exposed roof timbers and slate tiled floors with underfloor heating. The property boasts a patio which overlooks a field with grazing sheep, perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine on summer days, whilst cosy winter evenings can be spent around the woodburner. Set at the foot of Sutton Bank, on the edge of the North York Moors, this is an excellent area for walking and cycling, and the adventurous might like to visit the Gliding Club at the top of the bank or the Yorkshire Outdoors in Felixkirk for clay shooting and off road driving. Close by is the market town of Thirsk, renowned for connections with the famous vet James Herriot, and there are numerous village inns serving local produce and traditional ales. Visit stately homes at Castle Howard and Nunnington Hall, abbey ruins at Rievaulx and Byland, and the World Heritage Site at Fountains Abbey. Explore the Yorkshire Dales and the Moors, take a trip on the steam train from Pickering to the fishing port of Whitby, or spend a day in the ancient walled city of York, 24 miles. Shop 4 miles, pub and restaurant 400 yards.

Simply superb accommodation. Definitely the cleanest and best equipped holiday cottage we have experienced. The owners were helpful, friendly, but discreet. Lots of National Trust and English Heritage plus other attractions nearby. Couldn't visit them all so we shall return next year.

A very warm and inviting welcome from our hosts. Within a short time of or arrival our hostess Alison had booked a table for us at the local inn for our first evening meal! She was always available to help without being intrusive. There are many tourist attractions, beautiful country side and scenery within a forty five mile radius of Paper Mill. One could also easily have a peaceful and restful period at the cottage, sitting on the patio enjoying refreshments and watching the sheep and wildlife in the adjacent pasture. A very enjoyable week. I am sure Paper Mill Cottage will always be a popular choice.

Delightful quiet cottage with welcoming friendly hosts. Well equipped and spotlessly clean. Good suggestions from Alison for places to eat. Only disappointment was no sheep in the paddock but then some guests would prefer that.

Absolutely lovely cottage in tip-top condition. The cottage was very clean, very comfortable and had everything that you would want for a holiday. The wifi also works , for those who need it. The owners where exceptionally helpful and pleasant. There was a problem with the TV and they went out and bought a replacement. Thirsk supplies all the services that you would need with an excellent bakery; there are two supermarkets on the western side of the town which provide an excellent choice.
