This was our second summer holiday at Owls Cry. Upon arrival, we were met with a terrific welcome and a delightful arrangement of flowers. Our son, who is almost eight, said how lovely it was to be back. The accommodation is as described. The garden area at the front is very dramatic and green. The trees are spectacular and create a beautiful setting to the property. The cottage is wonderful and you are provided with all you need for a very happy holiday and a contented stay, in our case, during the Olympics. On chilly evenings, the heaters were very welcome and made the rooms very cosy. The owners are available next door when you need them, and are happy to assist with anything - even the provision glue for model soldiers! Our son enjoyed playing in the back garden, both on the lawn and the patio area; the swing-ball and the basket ball net being very popular. There is a lovely walk adjacent to the property. Our stayed went far too quickly. When we got home, we noticed an irreplaceable football shoe was missing. Mr and Mrs Smith kindly returned it to us, which made us all extremely happy. We cannot thank them enough for their hosting.

Owls cry almost made us cry! The whole property needs steam cleaning & the bathroom needs to be replaced! There is a septic tank which from time to time caused a horrible smell. There is a blanket on the settee which smelt of dog. Upstairs was OKish though the fridge was not too clean & the whole kitchen needed to be wiped down. Downstairs, the bedroom was very dark & cold & prone to mosquito / longlegs invasions! Probably due to the huge trees surrounding the property. Curtains & covers were tatty. There were lovely pictures of the garden in the brochure but we were disappointed to find an old swing ball, rusted BBQ & long grass. The location was very remote & hard to find especially in the dark! We would not have stayed for the whole week had it not been for the fact we were meeting up with our daughter who was training at Truro hospital & would have been disappointed had gone home.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay but must take issue with many of the comments. We do try our utmost to provide a welcoming and comfortable environment for our guests, with tea, coffee, milk and biscuits always provided for arrival. The property is cleaned thoroughly after every visitor and is inspected by Welcome Cottages annually to ensure that the property meets their standards. The curtains were replaced two years ago and are cleaned every year and we provide towels for guests which were replaced last year. Bed linen is replaced usually every third year. Septic tanks are often found in rural locations and ours is a properly sealed and tested system. The tank is located on adjoining land approx 100M away and therefore does not cause an issue. We find that children love the freedom of the garden and enjoy playing with the swing ball which was new last year plus the badminton set and basketball net. The BBQ charcoal grid has surface rust but the cooking grill is kept separately and is pristine. We are fortunate to be surrounded by trees, many of which are protected in this area and although we do cut the grass regularly, we enjoy a more natural style of garden as there is an abundance of wildlife to be found, e.g. rabbits, foxes, three kinds of woodpecker, badgers, foxes and of course, nesting owls after which we named the property “Owls Cry”. We do find it odd to have a review giving 2 out of 10 adjacent to a review giving 9 out of 10.

Me my partner and our 4 year old boy went for a relaxing 5 day break and in the words of Tina Turner it was " simply the best " just wish we had though about taking our bikes as the area is an amazing place to ride !!! There is a really nice cafe about a 15 min off road walk away that was great to get the day started with a coffee and breakfast. Can't recommend this place enough very freindly and totally relaxing !!

A quirky property, centrally located and with relatively easy access to the main trunk routes. The sloping roof upstairs was more of a problem for my 5' wife than me nearly 6'. I knew I would need to duck. In spite of the great Cornish weather we had to put the electric heater on most evenings as the bedroom downstairs felt cold / damp. Our dog struggled with the open tread stairs. This accommodation is ok for a couple. Do NOT think about taking a third person unless you are prepared to give up all privacy as the only toilet / shower are reached through the main bedroom.

A beautifully situated cottage with easy access to walks. Cottage was comfortable and cosy with all the equipment you would need for a self-catering holiday. Owner was friendly and helpful and our dogs were welcomed, however I must point out that the garden was not fully fenced.

The property is dark, the trees overhang too much for our liking. the ground floor bedrooms were cold and the bathroom smells.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments. The toilet and shower have been independently tested and inspected and no fault or discernible odour was found.

Shabby and primitive bathroom.Property is overhung by massive trees and the ground level outside is higher than the floor of bedroom which gives a cold damp atmosphere downstairs. Clean enough generally and adequately equipped.
