Description

Retaining some original features, this period cottage offers comfort and stunning views over the magnificent garden and orchard.

This pair of garden cottages are set in the grounds of the Jacobean Manor House - Thickwood House, dating back to the 1700’s. During the centuries it grew to become one of the most prosperous farms in the area, and its present owners maintain the stunning gardens and outbuildings in keeping with the house. The cottages were sympathetically converted from a Cotswold stone byre, and retain many traditional features. Cosy and comfortable, and with views over the magnificent garden and orchard, they provide a peaceful, countryside retreat and an excellent holiday base from which to explore the surrounding countryside and picturesque villages. Nearby Castle Combe is said to be the prettiest village in England, also famous for its motor racing circuit. Lacock is another picture postcard village, well loved by film-makers for its historical streets and buildings. Lacock Abbey was used in the Harry Potter films. This AONB enjoys easy access to the Cotswolds, Salisbury Plain and the Marlborough Downs offering stunning scenery for walking and cycling, and the Georgian Spa city of Bath is within half an hour’s drive. Shops and pub 1 mile.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room with beams. Kitchen. 1 double bedroom. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Both properties: Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. DVD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Laundry service available at cost. Large shared, lawned garden with patio and furniture. Ample parking. No smoking. No children under 12 years. NB: Deep water feature in grounds.

Nice, comfortable, and warm - very cosy. Local pubs were 1st class for evening food Great base to explore the area

we found the cottage had everything need but we found that because they allowed pets, it could have done with a bit more of a deep clean on the sofa and living room as some pets hairs troubled my wifes allergy. Also could do with extra source of heat in the living room for those colder nights. Overall the cottage was nice, but just needs little details sorting and we would stay there again.

Lovely cottage and grounds and the surrounding area is beautiful, was great that I could take my dog, would love to stay again but it is a bit over my budget, ok for a once a year visit to collect my son from university

The cottage and the grounds were very clean and well kept. Cottage was well equipped and had everything we needed . We had hoped to be able to walk to the local pub but was not that close and had to walk along a busy road, so that was a shame. We had a lovely break away. And the owner was very helpful with suggesting places to visit. Many thanks

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are sorry that you did not find the walk down the Green Lane and footpath across the fields into the village. It is about a mile to the pub but there is no need to use the road. We will make sure the footpath map is easy to find in the cottage folder. Thank you for visiting.
