With nature reserves nearby and seal spotting possible near Winterton, this is a perfect spot for wildlife enthusiasts.

Orchard House dates back to the 1870s and nestles on the edge of the village of Martham, which is conveniently located midway between the Norfolk Broads and the North Sea. The village has two pubs and a selection of shops and it is thought to have the only thatched fish and chips shop in Norfolk. The holiday property is full of charm and character with many original features, wooden floors and original fireplaces, making it ideal holiday accommodation at any time of the year. Orchard House is situated 3 miles from the lovely East Norfolk Coast seaside resort of Winterton-on-Sea, with its roots in fishing. Wonderful beaches with extensive sand dunes can be found here at this small village which has a few shops and a village pub. The sand dunes are nature reserve classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and ideal for bird watching and walking. Just north of Winterton is a colony of grey seals that can be regularly seen basking on the beach or popping their heads up over the waves.
The traditional seaside resort of Great Yarmouth is 9 miles away with its pier entertainment and amusements and the Time and Tide Museum. The North Norfolk Coast is well worth exploring with its pretty coastal villages. For children, BeWILDerwood at Horning offers an outdoor tree house adventure park with zip wires, jungle bridges, marsh walks and boat trips which, when all combined, add up to a great day out. Alternatively, the fine city of Norwich, 15 miles, makes a good day out with cathedrals, museums, theatres and a vast array of cafés and shops. There is a wealth of National Trust properties to visit in the area which include Felbrigg Hall (one of the finest 17th-century country Jacobean houses in East Anglia) with its garden and parkland, Blickling Hall (a magnificent Jacobean house with woodlands and lakeside walks) and Sheringham Park (beautifully landscaped and renowned for its spectacular displays of azaleas and rhododendrons in late spring). There is also Horsey Windmill which is just 3 miles away. Walking and cycling can be enjoyed along the network of quiet lanes and the birdwatching is very rewarding. Shop and pub 1 mile.

Mainly suited needs of our family of 9, particularly bedrooms & bathrooms. However we felt downstairs was gloomy and needs updating. Also small garden both back and front could have been made larger by removal or pruning of many shrubs. Not much room for children to play. Strong smell of oil from tank in back 'yard'.

Three generations enjoyed a lovely half term this February at Orchard House. It had everything we needed for a self-catering holiday with plenty of room. The location was ideal with lots of different things to do with all the family. We particularly liked Bewilderwood, Bure Valley Railway, the seals on the beach at Horsey Warren and the sealife centre. The only downside to Orchard House is that 3 of the beds need new mattresses. Even our 5 year old commented on the 'bumpy bed'.

Appreciate it's an old house but it was dirty, smelly and damp. Lovely kitchen and great heating system, soon warmed the house up.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are rather surprised and disappointed to read your comments. Orchard House is thoroughly cleaned after and before every rental. We have professional cleaners and I know they pride themselves on their work. We have since gone through the house again and I can assure you that it's not dirty. We also have a guest book for comments in the property and we are consistently praised for our high standard of cleanliness. The Cottages 4 You Regional Manager recently completed our annual inspection and where they made some valid comments regarding paintwork, no issues were raised in regards to cleanliness. We will give attention to the decoration ASAP. With regards to the damp - we've since sealed the outside walls and I'm sure it will be much better. Because it's an old house, it may smell a little damp when you first go in, but this usually disappears very quickly. With regards to comfort and equipment – the property is a spacious old farmhouse with lots of character; it has 5 bedrooms of which 3 are double bedrooms, all well-equipped. The House has a large family bathroom and separate shower bathroom upstairs, with separate toilet downstairs. There is a TV room and a living room, a dining room and a roomy kitchen. It's equipped to accommodate our family and friends of sometimes up to 12 people and we cook, eat and relax effortlessly - so it is a little difficult to see what more could be provided and I believe the photos display adequately the accommodation that is on offer. Orchard House is located on the Broads - 3 miles from Winterton-on-sea beach, an unspoilt, wide beach with lots of walking opportunities. The sand dunes are a nature reserve classified as an area of outstanding natural beauty and are ideal for bird watchers. Just north of Winterton, a colony of grey seals live and can be regularly seen basking on the beach or popping their heads above the waves. Norwich, Wroxham, Horning are all between 20 - 35 minutes’ drive from the house. There are many opportunities for entertainment and we keep a box in the kitchen with leaflets and suggestions from previous guests
