The good points 1) location is great, shop & good pubs nearby to eat and drink 2) downstairs living room with comfortable seating 3) good bed The bad points 1) shower screen incorrectly fitted to bath so that there is a gap at the bottom resulting in water all over floor after use 2) black mould present in grout around toilet 3) food left in freezer & 4) lack of wardrobe shelf space & others clothes left there. The bad points are a pity as they are (and should be) easily fixed.

A wonderful cottage, in a great location. Contact with the key holder was easy and helpful. The only reason we haven't been able to award 10's across the board, was one small issue (which ended up being a week long niggle) We searched for a cottage suitable for 3 adults. My mother is only little, but found the second bedroom unsuitable for an adult. This room is only really suitable for children. It made dressing and moving around a chore. Let's be clear, it was a niggle at most. One I'm. sure can be easily rectified for the future

I really enjoyed my stay in this cottage. It's cosy, bijou, authentic and very well placed in the village center. The kitchen and bathroom are well fitted out. The main living room is pleasingly restored and furnished. The upstairs sleeping quarters are close but perfectly adequate. I would come again. It would suit walkers-sightseers / a couple of adults with young children or alternatively a couple friends. Three points i felt i should raise, none of which should hinder any potential bookings for now at least : 1. The fridge/freezer looks like it's done a long service and seemed to me to now be struggling. Maybe the owner could check when they next visit. 2. The grilling function in the oven didn't work (it's symbol has also been removed from the oven control knob, suggesting the owners already know this.) Not crucial but it meant on rainy afternoons, no cheese-on-toast or Croque-Monsieur currently on the menu at Orchard Cottage. (Though there is a pop-up toaster on the counter.) 3. Both the previous visitor and myself on two occasions experienced a failure of the rubbish to be collected when the bins/boxes were put out. This may be a mixture of an irregular pattern caused by periods the cottage is empty as well as cars constantly parking for very short duration directly outside the cottage pathway/gate as people pop into the village shop opposite there-by obscuring and blocking access to any bins/boxes placed on the pavement. Both these possibly leading to the rubbish-cart missing the pick-up. Whatever, it seems like something the owner needs to look into and perhaps alter instructions about street placement.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comment. Nice to read you enjoyed the character of the cottage. Regarding the 3 points you mentioned: The fridge/freezer has always worked perfectly. We shall have a closer look. We will replace the oven. The micro-wave also can be used as an oven and grill. So cheese on toast etc. is always possible. We will look at the schedule/instruction of the bin collection. In all the years we have used the bin we have never had a problem with the collections by the District Council. We place the bin outside the garden on the end of the tarmac path near the road.

Lovely cottage in an ideal location. The cottage was an ideal size for the two of us with our small dog. Would have been a bit of a squeeze for 5 adults as 2nd bedroom was tight, but not a problem for us. Extremely well-equipped cottage, especially kitchen equipment. Stairs had to be negotiated with care, but you quickly develop the knack! The outside area is very pleasant and the location in the heart of the pretty village of Hook Norton is ideal. Didn't get starter pack of logs, but eventually picked some up from the village shop opposite - storage heaters worked fine in any case. All in all we had a lovely restful week at Orchard Cottage. Highly recommended.

Response on behalf of the owner; We appreciate your comment and apologise for the fact that there was no starter-pack. There is always wood in the shed.

We enjoyed our stay at Orchard Cottage. It had everything we needed to cook our own meals and is in the middle of a lovely village, with a shop and pub nearby.

The cottage was nice. I liked the traditional style, great location in a quiet village. The property itself is small, but that's what gives it it's character. The main problem was the shower - it was unusable due to absolutely no water pressure. This ruined our stay. We'd booked for a week and left after 2 nights due to this. Regardless of how nice the property is, I'd avoid until the shower issue was resolved.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the owner; We are sorry to read about the shower. On the 2nd of December we had a new electrical shower pump (booster) installed and the water pressure is fine now. The bath has a normal size. I am 6 foot 4 and have been using it for many years.
