Lots of plus points: period charm; comfortably furnished; well-equipped; friendly helpful owners; friendly well-serviced village 10-15 mins. walk away incl. lovely craft centre with cafe, post office, butcher, fairly large convenience store with long opening times; plenty to do both nearby (e.g. lovely Ely) and further afield (e.g. Duxford). Possible drawbacks depend on what's important to you: the house is just feet from the road and night works are making diverted heavy traffic thunder past outside the double bedroom in the early hours; not so bad if you sleep with windows closed. The "period charm" could be challenging if you are particularly unsteady on your feet, very tall (just for one awkward doorway), or live in bare feet.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We are delighted you found a great deal to recommend it and that you enjoyed your stay. We were sorry to hear, however, that you were disturbed by traffic noise but unfortunately on a couple of evenings during your visit, work was taking place on a major route on the outskirts of the village and traffic was diverted. Old Porch House is conveniently placed for easy access to all major routes making visiting the East of England quick and easy. But on this occasion work was planned and unfortunately we had no control over this. The property is 400 years old and retains many of its original features including natural floor coverings and a non-standard sized door. We understand that this can present challenges for some people but for many that is its unique charm.

The cottage was a very comfortable base from which to explore other places in East Anglia, such as Ely, Cambridge, Welney Wetland Trust, Wimpole Hall, Stamford, etc. The online photographs accurately portray the cottage which would be of particular interest to people with an interest in history. Lesley was very helpful, both before and during our week-long stay, and very kindly welcomed us with a bottle of wine! We would happily recommend this cottage to others.
