From a touch of luxury to characterful heritage, experience one of our truly inspiring holiday properties.

Explore Dorset from this larger 17th century property conveniently situated in the popular seaside resort of Lyme Regis.

Dating back to 1630 - when it was originally established as a coaching inn - Old Monmouth lies in the heart of the popular seaside resort of Lyme Regis and forms one of a row of properties, just 100 yards from the seafront. Full of character, it offers spacious holiday accommodation for 16 people - with seven bedrooms (five en-suite) and also has many period features, including beamed ceilings, inglenook fireplaces and pine wooden shutters.

Old Monmouth has endured a chequered history with Monmouth’s cavalry lodging there in 1685, being visited by Oscar Wilde in 1891 and used by the Americans as a HQ during the war. This unique property is an excellent holiday home to enjoy Lyme Regis with its famous Cobb, beach, shops and cafes, and also to explore the Jurassic Coast World Heritage site. There is superb scenery, coastal walking, golf and fishing on the doorstep, and within easy driving distance are Bridport, Charmouth, Beer, Seaton and Sidmouth. Weymouth, with its Deep Sea Adventure, Timewalk and many other attractions also makes for a good family visit. There are a host of National Trust properties to visit, as well as Forde Abbey and Gardens - whilst inland, the Yeovilton Air Museum, the Haynes Motor Museum, Sherborne Castle and much more provide alternative days out. Shops 200 yards, pubs and restaurant 100 yards.

Weather perfect, location would have been perfect if road had not been closed - buses not running as usual and a burst gas main! All added to the excitement! The fact that the road closed made unloading of cars and loading of cars a nightmare as it virtually blocked roads. Drivers are not the most patient of people. None of this could have been foreseen and did not detract from the enjoyment and comfort of the house. Kitchen extremely well equipped - we enjoy cooking. One suggestion - as the house sleeps 16 two car parking permits are not sufficient. With 11 adults we needed more than two cars because of luggage. Families with children and car seats certainly would not cope.

Excellent accommodation for large group. Only drawback was lack of parking and garden.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay but felt the recycling should be more regular and a change of linen offered, as the washing machine was broken.

A lovely old property in which we stayed for the half term week. We were a family of eight adults and six young children. There was plenty of room for everyone but the property would have benefitted from a drying room for towels, beachwear and wet outdoor clothing etc.

Great cottage for families, plenty of space for everyone to do what they wanted. Lounge a lovely place to sit in evening as was the large dining room. All bedrooms warm and comfortable. Showers excellent. If I have one criticism, no food processor and not enough baking trays.

Second visit, but not the last. A fantastic place for a 4-generation family weekend. Lyme is a special place and this is a wonderful house. Thank you!
