English Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Dating back hundreds of years, this Grade II listed barn, is close to Much Wenlock, and Shrewsbury and Ludlow are easily reached.

A fine example of a quality, detached conversion, Ridge Barn (ref RGGL) is conveniently appointed with excellent views, and Old Hall Barn (ref RGG5) is a former barn, now Grade II listed, dating back hundreds of years. Sympathetically converted to provide high class accommodation with modern conveniences by the adjacent owners, it has a tasteful interior and a good sense of space throughout. The properties are central to the medieval towns of Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth and Much Wenlock. The small hamlet of Kenley promotes peace and tranquillity, and nearby Much Wenlock is a quintessentially English town, where traditional independent shops and tea rooms rule; it is known as the birthplace of the modern Olympics and the magnificent Wenlock Edge escarpment. The Wenlock Edge, ever popular with walkers, is an ideal place for nature lovers and ornithologists. Shrewsbury town offers attractions and historic buildings, with its theatre, trendy bars and high street shops. Bridgnorth is a town split in two, with high town and low town linked by Britain’s steepest funicular railway - you will also find Rays Farm, the Severn Valley Railway and Daniels Mill. Shropshire’s other nearby areas of interest include Ironbridge and Ludlow (with its superb cuisine), and for those wishing to venture across the borderlands, mid Wales and Herefordshire are easily accessible. Shops 5 miles, pub 2½ miles. The properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 9 guests.

Ideal for getting away from it all - deep in the countryside, no shops or pub nearby, no WiFi.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner. News. News. Old Hall Barn now has connectivity. The latest guests 14th July 2017 were able to use the Wifi. We have found a way of boosting the signal into the property so that guests are now able to remain in touch with the outside world. Apologies to the guests who enjoyed the fact that they truly were getting away from it all. We are enjoying a wonderful summer with many happy customers. Thank you to all the lovely guests who have enjoyed the Shropshire country side.

Fantastic stay at this lovely cottage. Everything was perfect (including weather), and all our needs were catered for by our lovely, friendly host Sarah and her family (who were also happy to provide us with lots of useful local information). As we were new to the area their was much to see, with great walks and lots of interesting towns and villages to explore. We looked forward to returning to this comfy, cosy and deceptively spacious cottage at the end of each day - hoping to return very soon.

Sarah (owner) was very friendly and welcoming, providing lots of local information and maps. Cottage very spacious, clean and well equipped. Very comfortable and plenty of hot water at all times. Lovely quiet location with nice views. We were very lucky with the weather; the only rain was on the last evening and the morning we were packing up, so we spent most of our time out and about.

Lovely quiet and tranquil location - the perfect spot for a relaxing holiday. The cottage is spacious, comfortable, warm and clean, with everything that you could possibly need to enjoy your stay. The dishwasher was very much appreciated ! Ideal location for our dogs, as there are beautiful walks from the cottage and numerous other walks close at hand, in this lovely part of the country. We were all made to feel extremely welcome in this excellent cottage.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your praise of our cottage. It was lovely to see you for your second visit. We work very hard to maintain a very high standard so that none of the guests in either of our holiday cottages are disappointed. Our family saying is treat others as you would like to be treated so this review is very much appreciated.

Very high class barn conversion, Gavin and Sarah could not have been better hosts. Having stayed in a number of cottages this was the best! Comfortable and spacious with every detail thought of. Very rural location with fantastic views but close enough to towns and historical places of interest.

A new letting has recently been opened opposite Old Hall Barn. A stone wall has been built obviously for privacy of the property. Unfortunately this has made the living room very dark meaning that lights have to be used regardless of the time of day. The view from the window is just the stone wall which is only a few yards away. The new property has Wi-Fi but none in Old Hall Barn.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; I would like to defend our beautiful stone wall and explain that it is a retaining wall for the patio of Ridge Barn. When planning and developing Ridge Barn we gave much consideration to the effect it may have on Old Hall Barn with it's impeccable customer satisfaction history. We felt that privacy was very important to our guests. The sitting room in Old Hall Barn has always been dark in contrast to the particularly light kitchen. The Barn is listed and therefore the window size can not be altered to allow more light. In response to this review we have provided an extra light and a reading lamp for those who may still find it too dark when reading. In response to the remark concerning wifi we do not advertise the property with wifi access but we are always happy to provide a code that will enable guests to use our own wifi. This system has worked well as most guests communicate with us so that we are able to make their stay as comfortable and convenient as possible.
