From a touch of luxury to characterful heritage, experience one of our truly inspiring holiday properties.

Awash with beams and many other features, this former barn boasts a 40ft galleried living room and lies close to Stow’s market square.

This 16th-century Grade II listed barn has been skilfully converted to provide a unique and outstanding holiday home - with every detail having been taken into consideration from the hand-made door hinges, handles, old flagstones and oak floors, down to two doors made by Mouseman Thompson. Ancient Chinese and Roman pottery feature throughout the house, and in the entrance hall, two trees have been planted into the flagstone floor, adding an unusual touch. On the first floor, a spacious 40-foot galleried, beamed living room adds further charm. The house is furnished throughout with interesting antique furniture from the Arts and Crafts era, a movement founded by William Morris.
Old Forge Barn lies within walking distance of Stow market square, where there are excellent restaurants, old inns, galleries and many interesting shops. The towns and villages of the Cotswolds are a delight to tour, with stunning countryside in all directions. Burford has an excellent wildlife park and the pretty town itself is a pleasure to browse around, whilst at Stratford-upon-Avon, daily guided tours are offered to all the places of interest in this World Heritage City of Shakespearian fame. For alternative days out, Oxford is easily accessible, as is Cheltenham. Blenheim Palace is within 30 miles. Shops 400 yards.

The cottage itself is beautiful, exactly what you want for a relaxed weekend away and in an excellent position for walking into Stow-on-Wold and having dinner or doing some shopping as well as near some beautiful walks and countryside. It was warm and well heated and the kitchen was well stocked with everything you need to cook a sunday roast dinner. However, the en-suite bathrooms did not have doors which made the 2 double bedrooms very strange, and meant the toilets were unusable most of the time. The other bathrooms did not have locks which also made it a bit inconveniant for groups of friends sharing. There were a lot of notes around the house with information on how to use appliances etc. These were helpful, but it was very dissapointing that there was no note welcoming us to the house, and no welcome wine, tea or cake which is something other cottages we have stayed at offer. For this reason and the bathroom issues I probably wouldn't stay again but I did think the cottage itself was lovely and very clean.

Old forge is a beautiful property which had been decorated with taste and style. The location is great as the town is in was walking distance.

Fantastic house and location , but bathrooms need updating due to not being very practical (need showers instead of baths). Overall a lovely atmospheric house and would definitely go back.

We had a great weekend break at the old Forge Barn, the location is perfect with all amenities right on your doorstep. The Barn is full of character and extremely quirky, with plenty of room for 8 people. On the downside, some of the furniture could do with updating (especially the sofas) and the top floor bedroom & bathroom really need some attention.

A unique place to stay. Great location. Stunning lounge and fire place. Lots of space to spread out in what is obviously a well loved home. So much more fun to stay somewhere that has real character features and not a carbon copy of a hotel room. An instruction leaflet for the oven would be useful and sofa covers could do with a clean/replacement but overall would love to return.

Lovely building in a lovely area but the barn was dirty and we had to clean up to be able to stay there. Toilets too high-could not touch the floor and only one shower.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. We are so sorry to hear you feel the toilets are too high. When we had them installed, it was to assist the elderly and disabled clients so they would also be able to come and enjoy the old forge barn and this is the first time anyone has commented on this in all the 12 years we have been here. Regarding the shower, we do have the one shower but we also have a bath and two Jacuzzis for people to enjoy. We have a sunken bath for ease of access in and out. It is most unexpected that we have received two comments regarding the toilets within a week of each other. We do have the cleaners on site all the time so feel disappointed with the comment regarding the cleanliness of the 16th century building.

An absolutely fantastic location, with so much to see and do. The Barn is very well located. It is a lovely property although not ideal for anyone with very small children (the bedrooms are on three different levels and two are attic style rooms), or anyone who is bothered by dust or cobwebs. The upstairs sitting room is a lovely spot to sit and relax and the kitchen is great too (once you have worked out the slightly complicated lighting system!).

Lovely barn conversion with a real homely feel, clean bedrooms, nice lighting, good facilities, good heating system and two nice open fires, great location in the centre of Stow where there are some lovely places to eat and drink and go walking.
