Wonderfully converted to a very high standard, this Cotswold stone barn is situated within the characterful hamlet of Calcot, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, between Stow-on-the-Wold and Cirencester, which offers a central location for exploring the Cotswolds. The Old Byre is three miles from Northleach, a small town of historical interest, at the meeting point of the A429 Fosseway and the A40, and three miles from the picturesque village of Bibury, reputedly acknowledged by William Morris as ‘the prettiest village in England’. There are many nearby honey-coloured villages well worth a visit including Bourton-on-the-Water, Moreton-in-Marsh with its famous Tuesday market, and Chipping Campden. The city of Gloucester, with its magnificent cathedral and tomb of Edward II is within easy reach, as is the Regency city of Cheltenham with famous racecourse. National Trust properties are plentiful, including Snowshill Manor and Woodchester Park. For horticultural enthusiasts there is Westonbirt Arboretum, Kiftsgate Court and Hidcote Manor. The property is 9 miles from Cirencester; 15 miles from Cheltenham; 25 miles from Oxford; 30 miles from Stratford-upon-Avon. Shop 3 miles and pub 1½ miles.

Loved the house. It was stunning and was lovely that we had a bottle of wine and crisps left by the owners. Stunning house for easter weekend that even the bad weather couldn't spoil. Children ages 11, 3 and 1 loved the play/games room. Only thing we were missing was a potato masher for when we made dinners but if that's all we could fault its not bad at all :)

The Old Byre is a lovely place..Its far away to give a pleasurable retreat but near enough to everything that one might like to To be picky it needs a little tlc.some light bulbs a few cupboard doors to be fixed a few more cooking dishes. An iron and ironing board would help. The tv well I am not degree educated and thus I never managed to get either to work.. You get them switched on but weak channel search no channels found you name it... The next question is interesting in terms of safety hmmm not sure what is all about Would love to bring my two westies next time

What a lovely place- beautiful building with great views of open countryside to the rear. Great big dining table and kitchen which we loved. A couple of minor points - the crockery was a bit scummy when we arrived so we had to wash most things before we could use - I think this is because the dishwasher wasn't very good. Also, one of the single beds wasn't very comfy - especially in comparison to the others in the house. Other than these little niggles we loved it- great place to spend the weekend. Walking distance to Bibury too.

The cottage was beautiful. We didn't want to leave! Loved the decoration and the log fire. In a great central location for exploring the Cotswolds. We will certainly go back in the future.

We all loved the property - aged 8 to 72. Could do with a tumble dryer when staying with children for more than 2 days (we were there a week in October). Also double room needs a wardrobe. Otherwise a very charming property and would have loved to stay longer.

A lovely spacious barn conversion, with an enormous kitchen and very attractive garden with a lovely view from both the kitchen and lounge. Four good sized bedrooms. Bathrooms are looking a little bit faded, but good powerful shower. The real prize is the location - not isolated because part of a small hamlet, but so quiet because away from any busy roads. The roads are mostly single track in the immediate area. Great local walks. Excellent for getting onto the main roads for Stow, Cirencester and Cheltenham. The Cotswolds are glorious - this was our second visit to the area this year, and it is stunning with the autumn colour. The directions have an error - you turn right at the Hare and Hounds and not the Horse and Hounds as described.
