Description

Old Applecroft is situated within 7 acres of grounds, close to the Stour Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Old Applecroft Farmhouse and Old Applecroft Farm Cottage are delightful, detached buildings, accessed via a track approximately ¾ mile long. As a welcome to this picturesque area, each booking in the farmhouse or the cottage will receive a welcome gift on arrival.
Old Applecroft Farmhouse has a farmhouse style throughout with the added feature of a large conservatory/games room with pool and table tennis where guests can enjoy 180° views of the surrounding 7 acres of grounds. It is set over a large area and includes a separate wing with a further living/games room. This is ideal for a large family, perfect for weekends away with close proximity to fantastic transport links, but situated deep in the countryside of Essex.
Old Applecroft Farm Cottage is also detached with a farmhouse style and ideal for small families and couples.
The village of Great Henny is very rural but has all you need including a shop and riverside pub/restaurant. The ancient market town of Sudbury is nearby as is the Stour Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Dating back to Saxon times, there is a long history in the weaving and silk industries. Much of the work by Thomas Gainsbourgh was inspired by the beauty of Sudbury and you can visit his birthplace, art gallery and museum, exhibiting a number of his paintings. The area is particularly famous for the work of Constable and is referred to as ’Constable Country’. The River Stour provides the setting for much of his work. To the east you can visit Colchester with shopping, restaurants and pubs. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

The cottage is nice but the greenhouse leaks (buckets left by owner to catch water) and the fact there is no welcome pack is very disappointing. Also, big selling point is 7 acres to explore.... but then told dogs need to be kept on lead! And the garden is not private as several public footpaths run through it. And people walking through have their dogs off lead! Overall, could be perfect but needs work and thought about what is provided. Perhaps a fenced paddock for exercising dogs, and a small welcome pack of tea, coffee, sugar and milk etc. Also essentials like toilet roll ran out!

Took the family away for a long weekend 7 adults plus two grandchildren and two dogs farmhouse was very good plenty of room for everyone. We spent a lot of time in games room, table tennis + pool table and two large leather sofas to sit and chat. Location very good plenty of space to walk with the dogs on the public footpaths however quiet enough not to be disturbed. If I had anything constructive to say would be 1 The heating could have been put on for our arrival as it’s February and it took quite a while to be warm ( once heating kicked in it was fine) 2. The road on the way up to the farmhouse has a lot of quite big potholes which is q unite a concern because if you went a little too fast could be tricky. All in all I would recommend you stay in the farmhouse if you looking for a relaxing place to have a fabulous family weekend.

A lovely property and the games room was a great asset on a wet winter weekend. We had a lovely time. Good heating and lots of hot water. Comfy beds. But a few observations/niggles. The other property onsite is very close to the main house and the garden is not divided in any way. This would be more of a problem in the summer months. The drive to the property is rough and potholed, although we made it with care in a reasonably low-slung sports car. In the kitchen, there weren't a lot of saucepans for a party of 10 and there were no instructions for using the equipment (or we couldn't find them if they were there). Also lacking, which you usually expect to find in a holiday property, was any information about local attractions/restaurants etc. But otherwise, excellent.

This venue is amazing. The size of it is brilliant as there are many rooms and it took us a while just to find them all. The cottage was clean and tidy except for the games room where I think we were left with the remnants of the Christmas Tree pines on the floor. However this was a minor detail compared to the rest of the rooms which had been vacuumed and cleaned. The size of the venue means it is ideal for large groups and can sleep 8 very comfortably. The only thing which that customers need to be aware of is directions to the cottage as it isn't the easiest to find. There are a number of cottages called Applecroft Farm and so finding this one which is 'Old Applecroft Farm' took a while. The other thing that bothered us as a group was the track leading up to the cottage which is so full of potholes, it is like being on a rollercoaster as you drive up. Overall, the cottage itself was amazing and definitely a place we would consider staying in once again.

Lovely house, good quality equipment, warm, cosy. Unfortunately no soap, one toilet roll per toilet, no washing up liquid, 2 dishwasher tablets...all meant having to go shopping on Christmas Eve.

If you just need to switch off this is the place, surrounded by stunning countryside from all aspects. Pool table and ping pong plus PS4 and films if it is raining, brilliant. We walked with the dogs miles and found very lovely welcoming pubs in all directions. The cleaners were such nice people too, gave us a full tour and were very efficient. If I was going to give some negatives, the WiFi is iffy, (good in a way because we HAD to switch off from work) fridge in the kitchen is way too small if you are catering, although there is a great pub round the corner. Two of the double rooms should be changed as singles as you can hardly get in them. The toilet roll handle in the downstairs loo is on upside down :) and there is no towel rail in the barn conversion bathroom. But all that is fairly minor and easily rectified. Oh and if I was running the property, I would divide the rear garden so that kids and dogs are contained to the property you are in, there is another rental very close.
