We really enjoyed staying and this well presented cottage and may well do so again. It was warm, well kept, tidy, accessible and well equipped.

We had a lovely week in Lythe. The photos for the cottage are very flattering and the decor is looking quite tired. For not much more money there are more attractive properties available in the area. Whilst I appreciate there may be restrictions in terms of double glazing, shutters on the inside would go some way to reduce the noise from the traffic.

Well equipped and maintained. Good attention to detail with pint of milk in fridge, logs and firefighters for wood burner. Comfortable if soft mattresses on beds. House is right on the main coast road to Whitby from the north and all bedrooms are on the front of the house. As it is a listed building the windows can not be double glazed so road noise is rather intrusive. For this reason, and this reason alone, we would not book again.

I did not realise that there were low beams and doorways in the cottage when I booked ,I can't remember if they were described. My husband and son are tall and my husband in particular hurt himself quite often ,especially in the middle of the night going to and from the ensuite toilet. the outside back was a real disappointment ,there were no chairs or a table to put out to sit outside . The parking was poor .there was no parking in the evening on the pub car park ,so the car had to be moved,we put it on the community centre by the play park .

We stayed her for Christmas 2014 and have just booked for Christmas 2015 - so I guess you can tell we like it a lot.

When we arrived ay the cottage there had been a small flood, this was quickly dealt with, it meant the heating was cold downstairs the first night, but once the log burner was alight it soon warmed up. Very handy for the pub! Shop across the road well stocked. Plenty of parking. Plenty of room in the cottage for 6 guests.

This property was so cold we went home early, even after buying heaters in Whitby. The temperature in the master bedroom was 9c when we arrived and fell throughout the evening. The bathroom is completely unheated. the elderly storage heaters are totally inadequate, giving an almost undetectable amount of heat. The house was poorly cleaned- all kitchen equipment needed to be washed, mould on inside of the bin, hair of previous occupant all over the shower, crumbs on the rugs. The details should be updated to say that the property is unsuitable for small children and the infirm. The staircase (a pleasant feature of an old building if you are fit) is very steep and uneven. The house is about 1 ft from the A road through the village. Whilst noise was not a problem access with small children was very difficult. Contrary to the details there was no freezer (it was unplugged and looked dead). However our ice cream survived due to the baltic interior temperature. The standard of decor is cheap and now tired, especially in the bathrooms which include DIY paint effects not seen since changing rooms was on TV. There are some beautiful pieces of furniture though. It's a shame that the points raised in this review have been mentioned by previous reviewers, and suggests the owner is disinterested in improvement.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your stay at Oakdene Cottage. The bathroom is heated by a towel rail heater and we will ensure that the switch for this is signed in future. All of the storage heaters are working but on this occasion, the two heaters downstairs seemed to have been turned off at the switch. We apologise for the shortcomings listed in regards to cleanliness. We have thought carefully about these comments and have taken steps to ensure that this this does not happen again for future bookings. We have had an inspection completed by a Cottages 4 You Regional Manager and there was no problems found with the stairs. The freezer does work, but is switched off between bookings for practical purposes. We have taken your comments on-board in regards to the bathrooms and we will be redecorating the en-suite shower room within the next few months.
