We love Oakbank cottage, this is the seconded time we have been, it is close to Dumfries centre and all the tourist hot spots, the cottage is more like a mansion with space for all, and has everything you need from the kitchen equipment, to kids play room and swimming pool. We can not thank Anne and her Husband for 2 wonderful holidays enough. Thank you.

A brilliant holiday cottage. The owner was lovely and very helpful. We were welcomed with a bowl of chocolates and a bottle of wine. Our initial exploration of the house was fun (I loved the two utility rooms, the children loved the 'secret room' and the grandparents loved the conservatory). Obviously the pool is amazing and we all loved it. (By the way, there are separate pool towels provided and there is a shower/changing room plus a toilet in the pool room). The pictures do not do the cottage justice. It is much larger than I imagined. This is not your normal holiday cottage. It was obvious that the cottage used to be a home when looking at all of the trophies, knick knacks and the kitchen equipment (how many holiday cottages have a bread maker or five corkscrews?!) and this is the biggest plus point yet the biggest downfall of the cottage. Personally I would prefer a much more minimalistic look whilst on holiday rather than looking at someone else's idea of what to display and worrying about my toddler swiping it all week. But, the kitchen was better equipped than most holiday cottages and this made life much easier (could do with a couple more baking sheets, other than that it was great). The sofas in the lounge are ageing and the decor is quite dated. I lost count of the number of fake plants! But the space in the cottage makes up for the decor. The separate shower room had the best shower, the bath is huge and there are loads of towels plus hand soap and toilet rolls provided. The kitchen also has loads of tea towels and hand towels. The cottage was spotlessly clean. There wasn't even a speck of dust on any of the ornaments nor on the skirting board behind a sofa. The garden is totally open on to fields. This is not clear in the photos of the cottage. This could be a problem if you have toddlers and don't like running after them. We enjoyed watching the tractors come and cut the grass and collect it while we were there but did have to supervise the children and ensure that they stayed within the garden area for the three days that there were tractors in the fields. Not that we wanted any more space as the garden is a great size for children to run around and ride bikes. There is loads of parking space. We found that the Tesco van could pull up close to the side door and unload easily in to the kitchen (just as well with Scotland's charge for bags). Dumfries was a great area for a holiday. Particular highlights included a trip to Sandy Hills Bay for a gorgeous beach and a trip to Drumlanrig castle for a walk around the gardens and grounds plus a play in the adventure playground. We visited Edinburgh whilst staying here which took about two hours in the car. The cottage is on the outskirts of Dumfries and is very easy to find. Our children really didn't want to leave and are already pestering to go back next year. I guess that's the best indication of a great holiday. The guestbook shows that a lot of people return to the cottage and I can see why.
