Description

Glorious countryside surround this spacious and well maintained property which is located between Lake Windermere and the Cartmel Peninsula.

Set in glorious countryside between the Cartmel Peninsula and the southern tip of Lake Windermere, near Newby Bridge, this stylishly refurbished farmhouse, one of a pair, offers spacious rooms and beautiful views for a relaxing holiday in the heart of the southern Lake District. Situated near a small, family run, quiet and secluded caravan site amidst the woodland and picturesque fells, the farmhouse is a perfect base for visiting the multitude of nearby visitor attractions. Fell Foot Park, two miles away on Lake Windermere offers boating and fishing, from there you can take the ferry to Lakeside and board the boat to Bowness, to wander around the boutiques, galleries, tea rooms and the Beatrix Potter Exhibition. On the other side of the lake is Lakeside village, 2 miles, home to the Aquarium of the Lakes, and the Lakeside to Haverthwaite Steam Railway, with the Lakeland Motor Museum near Haverthwaite. The area is a walking and cyling paradise and a scenic drive alongside Lake Windermere through Bowness, Windermere and Ambleside will bring visitors to The Langdale Pikes where many scrambles or hikes lead to the mountain tops with the reward of amazing views. The famous poet, William Wordsworth, loved this area and a visit to his former house, Dove Cottage at Grasmere (opposite the beautiful lake) is well worth while. The southern Lake District abounds with historic houses and gardens, including Holker Hall and gardens, the 12th Century Priory at Cartmel, Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall and gardens. Shop and garage 2 miles, pub and restaurant 1/2 mile.

This cottage offered three double beds which was needed for our family booking. It is a very large property and has the front room upstairs giving lovely views across the fields. The house was clean and the kitchen well equipped. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 for comfort and equipment was beacuse I feel that the size of the place would be better suited to have a second shower and a dishwasher . That said, everything else was perfect and the games room as was a great added extra.

Lovely cottage with unobstructed views on three sides. The hosts were really nice and helped us with any queries we had. We loved our stay there. The only thing that we didn't enjoy were the bed mattresses in the rooms. A very personal thing I guess and unfortunately we like our matress slightly hard and this one was on the softer , spongier side. Overall a very good cottage to stay with loads of space both in and out. Plenty of board games stacked in the cupboard for kids to enjoy indoors when it's not too pleasant outside.

A lovely comfortable cottage , well equipped and very spacious. We had a wonderful time , myself, husband , daughter and three grandsons aged 2,5 and 13. The games room was an added bonus.

Fabulous property!! It's much bigger than expected with everything you could need. Lovely location with beautiful views and just a short drive to many places to visit. Spoke to the owner Glen a number of times and he was super friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend Oak Head Farmhouse and hope to visit again ourselves.

We had a lovely week at Oak Head Farmhouse. Beautiful views all round and very quiet and peaceful. The house is far bigger than we originally realised and the pool room was a great addition. The owners are nearby and were great hosts.
