Description

This holiday property is located in the village of Hale, just 10 miles away from Liverpool city centre.

This charming semi-detached Grade II listed cottage, built in 1738 is situated in the heart of the historic village of Hale, just 2 miles from Liverpool John Lennon Airport and 10 miles from Liverpool city centre. Providing spacious living accommodation, off road parking and a beautiful ⅓-acre garden with a fountain, this semi-detached holiday cottage is a real ‘home-from-home’, which is well-located for all that the area has to offer. The village, home to two local pubs serving food, a village shop, café and park with children’s play area, is on the Trans Pennine Trail and the area is great for walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers. Places to visit within easy reach include Speke Hall, Liverpool, Albert Dock, Knowsley Safari Park, Chester, Haydock and Aintree racecourses. The North West also has miles of unspoilt coastline, including beaches at Ainsdale, Formby and Crosby, where you can see the famous Anthony Gormley sculptures. Beach 1 mile. Lovely cottage for a couple as the ground floor and master bedroom are spacious. However, the second bedroom as furnished is inadequate for either one person or two. It is listed as a twin but the two single beds fill the room with only a six inch gap between them; no other furniture. There is one hook on the back of the door for clothes and a lamp on a shelf at the opposite end of the room to the bed heads. This room could be made comfortable as a single with the addition of a bedside table and some form of clothes storage. Excellent bus service into Liverpool and easy links to the surrounding area. Lots to see and do. Good Pubs in village with nice food and really friendly staff.

We had a really warm welcome and that was appreciated. The rain was a bit of a downer during our stay. We enjoyed the lighthouse walk and took our dogs to both the village pubs. The dog running area in the park was a bit small. The cottage is an old building, it has some quirks that are to be expected. There are some low beams for tall people to look out for. The kitchen is big and fully equipped, we didn't use the dishwasher because there weren't any tablets, we didn't use the washer because we didn't need too. The dogs loved the garden, despite people saying it was not secure, our dogs were fine and enjoyed exploring. It was great to find such a dog friendly cottage. The toilet cistern is in need of re-securing to the wall so the lid sits firm and its not at an odd angle, doesn't stop it working though. We wouldn't stay again simply because the cottage is on the final landing approach for John Lennon airport, the planes are so loud that it disturbed our dogs and also our holiday sleep, they are noisy from about 5am until well after midnight. I would've marked the cottage much higher for location if it hadn't been for this fact, if you could stop the planes it is probably a 9!

Had a fabulous time. Owners were lovely and helpful such a warm welcome that I have not experienced before at other properties. Cottage is great and Toby (our 3 year old) had a wonderful time in the garden and loved watching the aeroplanes. So much to do with toddlers in the area, we ran out of time to do it all. Mattel Play Liverpool was a huge hit with Toby and we loved the city of Liverpool. Fabulous park literally just across the road, lots to play on and well maintained. Great bit for littles to ride their bikes on, we wished we had taken our sons bike.

We stayed here with our 20 month old son. The cottage was very comfortable and the landlady was friendly. The village park is right across the road and our son enjoyed playing there. The childe of hale is a nice pub for an evening meal and you can stroll down to the lighthouse to walk off the food! Liverpool city centre is a half hour drive from here. We had a wonderful stay here and would have no hesitation staying here again.

This is a gorgeous cottage set in a beautiful village with two lovely pubs, a great Park and fab little story. It is well located for discovering the local area and the bus to Liverpool couldn't be more convenient. The house is small but perfectly formed with a bright, light kitchen and stunning garden. It is however in need of lots of tlc. The heralded alfresco dining area is rotten underfoot and is falling in above. The outside seating area is also rotten so unfortunately the lovely garden cannot really be enjoyed to its full. The gates to the off road parking are falling to bits so cannot be easily opened. There is adequate on street parking though. The proximity to the airport is brilliant but unfortunately Hale is at the end of the runway so aeroplanes pass very loudly overhead very frequently. Starting about 630am, finishing about 130am. Also unfortunately the lovely cottage is very pet friendly. It smells of wet dog despite air fresheners dotted around and stray hairs are everywhere. Overall it is a fab cottage and in an excellent location but it needs some urgent TLC and a more intensive clean.
