If I needed to be in Hale for any reason in the future, I'd definitely stay here again. The owners live very near, and are absolutely lovely people. The house was very clean and tidy, and the garden is large, fully enclosed (great if you have a dog!) and lovely. As far as areas for improvement, I just have a few comments: 1. less perfumed spray throughout the house - it was overpowering - ESPECIALLY on the bed (I think the bedding was sprayed, and it was way too strong for me). 2. The house was lovely and warm, but the master bedroom is quite cold (not surprising for a 300 year old cottage!). I'd recommend having some extra heavy blankets available, rather than just the one, very thin one in the closet. Luckily, I wasn't using the 2nd bedroom, so I was able to use one of the duvets in that room on my bed. 3. Having a cafetiere available for people who like "real coffee" would be great. They're small, cheap, and would be a welcome addition. ;-) Other than those three, minor things, it was a truly lovely cottage and a good experience. Kudos to the owners!

Under a flight path. Planes started at 6.30am. Thankfully not a Sunday. Also check out time was very early. But still a beautiful cottage and a lovely village

We had a great weekend at Oak Cottage. Ann was very helpful and made us most welcome. The cottage was comfortable with everything we needed for a relaxing break. Ideally situated opposite the park and the pub and next to the shop. Lovely walks nearby, particularly to the lighthouse. The dogs loved exploring the large garden! Will definitely book again!

We had a lovely stay at the cottage again. The area is stunning and a great pub just down the road. Our dog loves the garden and the park over the road

Great cottage. Really enjoyed our stay. Could be a little noisy from time to time with the passing traffic. Others have commented about aircraft noise but that didn’t bother me at all. Great local facilities and I’m sure the garden will be lovely when the weather is better. Easy parking off-road. Highly recommended.

Lovely cottage for a couple as the ground floor and master bedroom are spacious. However, the second bedroom as furnished is inadequate for either one person or two. It is listed as a twin but the two single beds fill the room with only a six inch gap between them; no other furniture. There is one hook on the back of the door for clothes and a lamp on a shelf at the opposite end of the room to the bed heads. This room could be made comfortable as a single with the addition of a bedside table and some form of clothes storage. Excellent bus service into Liverpool and easy links to the surrounding area. Lots to see and do. Good Pubs in village with nice food and really friendly staff.

We had a really warm welcome and that was appreciated. The rain was a bit of a downer during our stay. We enjoyed the lighthouse walk and took our dogs to both the village pubs. The dog running area in the park was a bit small. The cottage is an old building, it has some quirks that are to be expected. There are some low beams for tall people to look out for. The kitchen is big and fully equipped, we didn't use the dishwasher because there weren't any tablets, we didn't use the washer because we didn't need too. The dogs loved the garden, despite people saying it was not secure, our dogs were fine and enjoyed exploring. It was great to find such a dog friendly cottage. The toilet cistern is in need of re-securing to the wall so the lid sits firm and its not at an odd angle, doesn't stop it working though. We wouldn't stay again simply because the cottage is on the final landing approach for John Lennon airport, the planes are so loud that it disturbed our dogs and also our holiday sleep, they are noisy from about 5am until well after midnight. I would've marked the cottage much higher for location if it hadn't been for this fact, if you could stop the planes it is probably a 9!
