The cottage was lovely and clean and very well equipped. The view from the cottage was lovely, looking over the Kyle. The 20 minute walk to the beach took you through a number of fields, where there where plenty of birds to see and lots of sheep. The scenery around the area is terrific. Rather than John O'Groats, we would recommend a visit to Dunnet Head and Duncansby Head. As other reviewers have said, the downside is that the north of Scotland can be quite cold, even in June, so heating could/should be included in the price. We did use the electric heaters at times, and the electricity cost was reasonable at the end of the week. Be aware that there is no Internet in the property, and mobile phone reception was not great. The shop in Talmine appeared to be well stocked. Given that it is a restored Crofters cottage, the stairs to the bedroom are quite narrow, and care is needed especially on the way down to avoid slipping.

A beautifully furnished, comfortable and well-equipped cottage situated in a lovely spot overlooking the Kyle of Tongue. Very peaceful and within easy reach of walks along the coast and beyond. We stayed at Northern Lights when it was cold and sadly, the central heating was not up to the job. There were plenty of electric heaters which we made good use of. However, I felt I could not give full marks for comfort and overall rating due to the heating issue. I would have preferred to have paid a higher price to cover heating as required.

Fabulous location, very clean and tastefully decorated. However, in Northwestern Scotland, at the end of March, only providing two hours of central heating in the morning and two in the evening was woefully inadequate. We were forced to use the many electric heaters to take the edge off the bedroom and lounge until the woodburner got going and the kitchen was impossible to heat; for that reason we were unable to sit in it for meals. We were then charged for the extra electricity usage on top of the quite high initial rental. March is still Winter; heat is a basic requirement and should not be an add on charge. In addition, there were no blankets to put on the bed which meant my wife was cold at night. To be honest, so was I!

Really loved staying at Northern Lights and missed the beautiful views when we came back to the flats old Fens. Very comfortable and well-equipped. We would have liked to have had use of the bathroom, though shower room was very nice.

A warm, well-maintained, comfortable cottage in a quiet, fairly remote location, Northern Lights was a pleasant place to stay. The kitchen was equipped to a high standard with all modern facilities, the lounge was cosy and benefitted from an open fire, as well as central heating, which came on from an oil-fired boiler situated in the downstairs bathroom. Our only quibble would be that the boiler was quite noisy when it came on. The upstairs bedroom was comfortable, and had plenty of storage space. In the chest in the lounge there were lots of useful information about local attractions and local services.

What a fantastic little cottage in the most stunning location. We hire lots of holiday cottages and this was the best so far. Great to have only plenty of cupboard space instead of been crammed full of pots and pans and crockery you would never use. Also the cleanest cottage. The views out of the windows were to die for. You have to pay for the electricity you use but we didn't feel the cost was that much for what we used. We did not want to leave could have stayed there for ever.

Very good for two people. Parking space not clear. Outside washing line needed. Proximity (easy walk) to excellent restaurant great. Would book again.
