Loch and sea fishing are available, and a wide range of seabirds, such as puffins, waders and hen harriers can be easily spotted. Shop 500 yards, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

Loved it. Fed back the damp patch in living room to owner and non access to upstairs bathroom as can be dodgy going downstairs to bathroom. Owner happy to receive feedback. Overall loved it and would live here.

Felt at home straightaway at Northern Lights, even though it was like another world after a two hour bleak and beautiful drive from Inverness. Stunning views from the house and garden, but so comfortable that there was hardly any reason to go out. Local walks, eating places and shops however were all just what was required. Warm welcome from local people - we even attended a concert at the village community centre. Peaceful and relaxing - perfect place for a getaway. Plenty of good hard back books all around the house, and even a reasonable signal from the top stair!

The cottage was lovely and clean and very well equipped. The view from the cottage was lovely, looking over the Kyle. The 20 minute walk to the beach took you through a number of fields, where there where plenty of birds to see and lots of sheep. The scenery around the area is terrific. Rather than John O'Groats, we would recommend a visit to Dunnet Head and Duncansby Head. As other reviewers have said, the downside is that the north of Scotland can be quite cold, even in June, so heating could/should be included in the price. We did use the electric heaters at times, and the electricity cost was reasonable at the end of the week. Be aware that there is no Internet in the property, and mobile phone reception was not great. The shop in Talmine appeared to be well stocked. Given that it is a restored Crofters cottage, the stairs to the bedroom are quite narrow, and care is needed especially on the way down to avoid slipping.

A beautifully furnished, comfortable and well-equipped cottage situated in a lovely spot overlooking the Kyle of Tongue. Very peaceful and within easy reach of walks along the coast and beyond. We stayed at Northern Lights when it was cold and sadly, the central heating was not up to the job. There were plenty of electric heaters which we made good use of. However, I felt I could not give full marks for comfort and overall rating due to the heating issue. I would have preferred to have paid a higher price to cover heating as required.
