We visit Rutland Water every year for birdwatching and scenery and this has been our best find yet. The cottage is lovely and peaceful and really well equipped. Well stocked village shop a mile walk along the waterfront. Good value for money in this area and the owner made us very welcome.

We spent a lovely week in this cosy cottage which is ideally situated to make the most of a stay by Rutland Water. It was very clean and was ideal to use as a base for exploring the area. A little more attention could be given to the equipment in the kitchen area, we had to buy a tin opener and a small sharp knife and a few items were a bit worse for wear, space was very limited but manageable so long as you don't want to cook a full meal.

A most enjoyable 2 weeks with everything available that one could wish for. Although a Feb/Mar holiday is not the best time to chose the cottage was warm and the water hot so the dog and I were very comfortable. The owner was very friendly and helpful seeing to our every enquiry. A pity later renters will not enjoy the most beautiful snowdrops,

the positives were the location, a minutes walk from the beautiful lake-side and all the lake-side activities and 10 minute drive to Stamford, Oakham and Uppingham and the beds were comfortable. The negatives unfortunately were the lack of wardrobe space, impossible to hang even one person's clothes so we had to spill over into the small lounge area where there are no hooks or anywhere to hang things. Rather tatty decor with pages from an Atlas instead of wallpaper much of which was peeling and unsightly. No light in the kitchen area, although open plan to the lounge this made it a dark corner. The dining area light was broken so a table lamp was provided as a replacement. Seems to be hotel staff quarters above so you are directly overlooked when trying to enjoy the patio table outside. The only bar you can walk to in the evening is the hotel bar which is expensive and soul-less. The inside of the windows had cobwebs so obviously had not been attended to for a while. The tea-bags and biscuits were appreciated and a nice touch to make a first cup of tea but a tiny bit of milk in the fridge would be useful to go with them. The first thing we had to do was to find a shop and there are none within walking distance. It is also a bit of a pain to have to open and close two gates every time you take the car out.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; I am pleased that the guests found the cottage comfortable and enjoyed exploring the stunning area of Rutland . I'm sorry that there were a few things that they were unhappy with. Regarding the wardrobe, it is small, but does accommodate 6/8 hangers. There is additional storage which comprises of two large drawers under the bed and a chest of drawers in the bedroom. Two of the features walls are covered in various maps, some being of the area. This technique is known as Découpage, which is a technique used by decorators. It gives a very effective result. Unfortunately one of the pendant lights had been broken by previous guests. At the time of the stay, we were waiting on an electrician, but additional adequate lighting had been provided in the form of a standing lamp with the same wattage as the pendant light. There is another pendant light, plus two lamps in the room. The hotel we are not associated with, but usually they are very welcoming. With reference to a corner shop, there are two within walking distance, the nearest being a 5/10 minute walk, depending on pace, or 2 minutes in the car. Both shops seem to sell everything one would need, from bread, papers, wine, to stamps and dry cleaning Regarding the gates, we are in the country side and so as one would expect there will be gates for access to land.
