Great cottage in a great area, cottage was quite small and seating and bed size very restricted.

Copper Beech Cottage was disappointing, it is misleading to make you think you can sit outside and look over Rutland Water, you can round the corner outside Mushroom cottage but only when you are standing up. The carpets are hardwearing tiles that you would normally see in an office or workplace and the windows were filthy. There was gaffa tape over an obviously broken switched spur in the kitchen and if you are under 5ft 5 you will not be able to reach the pullcord to turn the light on in the bathroom. The extractor fans and the fan heater in the bathroom had obviously not been cleaned in a very long time and were full of dust and dirt making them a potential fire hazard and though hopefully never needed the presence of a broken heat detector in the kitchen is a concern. We stay in cottages several times a year and this is the first one that hadn't provided a small amount of milk to make a cup of tea on arrival, after travelling for hours we don't want to go to the supermarket immediately. Despite the negatives you can walk through the hotel grounds behind the cottage and gain access for a walk around the lake and the Rutland area is beautiful and has pubs and restaurants offering exceptional food in abundance. In summary holidays are precious and should be a wonderful and relaxing experience not somewhere just to put your head down.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; With regard to the view of the water, we feel that our information is not misleading. There is a very clear view of the water from the communal garden, which looks over Normanton Park shore, across in the distance to Epmingham and of the dam. The carpets as the guest stated, are hardwareing and as one would expect being a holiday cottage in the country. Many of our guests enjoy out door pursuits and have pets, there is a small piece of tape over a switch in the kitchen. This is not because the switch is broken, it has no function, it is not connected to anything. As the hot water switch is next to it it stops confusion. The smoke detector is fully functional and always has been. It is checked regularly and each and every inspection is logged. We are a self catering cottage, so we do not provide milk, although on most occasions we place, fruit from the garden, fresh flowers and biscuits/ cakes in the cottages. There are normally a few tea bags and coffee in the jars. I am pleased your enjoyed our location and enjoyed the beautiful area that surrounds us, feed back is always useful, as we aim for our guests to have a enjoyable and relaxed stay.

This was a lovely cottage for a short break. The location was excellent for access to Rutland Water for both walking and cycling. The cottage was lovely and clean on arrival and the biscuits left by the owner were a nice touch. Apart from the hotel, there were no pubs in easy walking distance but several good ones only a short drive away.

Wonderful location very near the lake. Very well appointed. Quick note to overseas visitors. To have a hot shower, turn it on outside and above the bathroom door. A very British arrangement.

We enjoyed our short break immensely and would certainly recommend it to others. The only criticism; especially for this early in the year, mid March; would be the lack of warmth. The two Economy 7 radiators are far from adequate during the colder days.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay, but sorry you found at times slightly chilly. The storage heaters can be regulated to the amount of heat they produce. There is an additional fan heater in the cottage, in the cupboard under the steps. I am always on call if there are any problems, I'm sorry that I wasn't made aware of this during your stay, I would have happily provided more heaters. Thank you for your feedback.

Great location next to the Reservoir. The property is obviously well used and this is now showing where the maintenance is now required

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback, I'm pleased you enjoyed the stunning location. The cottage was due to be updated, and has been updated just after your stay. It’s always difficult to get a clear period to do work, especially when ripping plumbing out! The property has had a new bathroom and kitchen plus redecorated, and we have had some very complementary comments on the newly refurbished cottage. I hope you will come again and enjoy the cottage and the beautiful area of Rutland.
