Newtown Haven sits on a rural working farm and boasts a south facing garden and natural fish pond.

Rural retreat

Newtown Haven is a quiet, rural cottage with enclosed garden, located in farming country on a mixed working farm. This semi-detached holiday cottage is one of a small number of houses created from former barns surrounded by owner’s own grounds. It offers comfortable accommodation with internet access, a south facing garden and a natural fish pool, where mallard ducks and moorhens breed every spring. This is an area for quiet enjoyment, situated on the Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire borders. For walkers there is Offa’s Dyke, Malvern, Clee and Church Stretton Hills. For the even more active, there is a riding school, 1 mile, golf and fishing. Within easy reach visit West Midlands safari park, boasting white lions amongst many other animals and attractions, the Severn Valley steam railway, Ironbridge Gorge museum and Blists Hill Victorian Town. Close by Ludlow, famous for its castle, festivals, quaint streets, shops, open markets and an abundance of restaurants for fine dining, some Michelin starred. The area also boasts many National Trust properties, all within easy driving distance. Have a day out further afield to the cathedral cities of Worcester, with its Porcelain outlet, Hereford, home to Bulmer’s cider and museum, and Gloucester for the regeneration of the Docks and the abbey at Tewkesbury. If you are a book lover, enjoy a trip to the renowned book town of Hay-on-Wye, whilst theatre lovers can venture out to Stratford-upon-Avon to the recently reopened Royal Shakespeare Theatre, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. It served a purpose. Did not like owners dogs running free and had to ask for more towels tap broken and then replaced with only 30 mins notice... fire alarm too sensitive ,went off before any food went in oven. No staples like sugar, tea bags. like we have had at many other places. Décor tired. Shower hose needs replacing, back door sticks, owner needs to check for her animals dog mess. Our greyhound is a rescue who will bolt at any opportunity, so not happy when owner just came in to property without seeing if our dog safe for door to be opened. I think hand soap could be provided in kitchen at least. And pre checks should be more thorough. Also felt like someone had been in property when we were out. Kitchen window open one day when we came back.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with some aspects of your stay at Newtown Haven. We are a working farm with farm dogs running free but they cannot get into the holiday let garden. Extra towels are always in the cupboard at the end of the bath. In regard to the fire alarm, we have not received comments of this nature previously and for the safety of our guests, the alarm must be working at all times. Newtown Haven is a self-catering accommodation, and visitors are advised through the holiday website to consider bringing their own staples such as sugar, cooking oils and condiments. We do not provide soap as most people prefer their own soap. The property description does not advertise a welcome pack. The door can stick from time to time; it swells when we have had a lot of rain. I regularly check for dog mess as I live on site too and of course we are mindful of guests that don’t have pets. As for someone entering the property and leaving a window open – we are always on hand to assist our guests if needs be however on the other hand, we do our best to be as unobtrusive as possible to respect our guests privacy. We would not upset our customers in this way after all; we would like some to return.
