Newtown Haven sits on a rural working farm and boasts a south facing garden and natural fish pond.

Rural retreat

Newtown Haven is a quiet, rural cottage with enclosed garden, located in farming country on a mixed working farm. This semi-detached holiday cottage is one of a small number of houses created from former barns surrounded by owner’s own grounds. It offers comfortable accommodation with internet access, a south facing garden and a natural fish pool, where mallard ducks and moorhens breed every spring. This is an area for quiet enjoyment, situated on the Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire borders. For walkers there is Offa’s Dyke, Malvern, Clee and Church Stretton Hills. For the even more active, there is a riding school, 1 mile, golf and fishing. Within easy reach visit West Midlands safari park, boasting white lions amongst many other animals and attractions, the Severn Valley steam railway, Ironbridge Gorge museum and Blists Hill Victorian Town. Close by Ludlow, famous for its castle, festivals, quaint streets, shops, open markets and an abundance of restaurants for fine dining, some Michelin starred. The area also boasts many National Trust properties, all within easy driving distance. Have a day out further afield to the cathedral cities of Worcester, with its Porcelain outlet, Hereford, home to Bulmer’s cider and museum, and Gloucester for the regeneration of the Docks and the abbey at Tewkesbury. If you are a book lover, enjoy a trip to the renowned book town of Hay-on-Wye, whilst theatre lovers can venture out to Stratford-upon-Avon to the recently reopened Royal Shakespeare Theatre, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. There was no fishing on site, and everywhere looked a bit run down. All the furniture and fittings and kitchen equipment looked like it had been passed down from the main house once they had finished with it. There was not even a fish slice. The shower head and hose was broken, and we had to put our own rubbish out on the main road for collection.

This was in a lovely quiet location with only minimal noise from the farm although with occasional country smells! Mr and Mrs Powell very friendly and helpful and unobtrusive. Comfortable bed and sofa etc and very well equipped kitchen.Loved the general surroundings and ambience cut off from the bustle of life and yet within easy reach of places to visit and shops for provisions. We would certainly stay here again in the future.
