Lovely cottage but not for a winter stay. We had a 6 month old baby and the cottage was cold and damp and we cut short our stay by 1 night as the heating just didn’t get up to temperature, we spent the time in the cottage with 3 layers of clothing on. We now know why sofa blankets were provided. The hive system kept turning back down to 10 degrees and didn’t get above 19 for the entire stay and it still felt damp. Unfortunately we all came back with chesty colds and our 6 month old had to have antibiotics for his chest infection. The fire displayed within the pictures we were advised is not used and so we only had the heating to rely upon. Positive feedback was that the cottage is a lovely size and has a well equipped kitchen in terms of crockery and accessories. The shower in the master bedroom is also lovely. I’m afraid that the negative out weighs the positive here: - the oven took 2 hours to cook some oven chips on night 1 due to not getting up to heat - the shower in the main bathroom filled with pipe contents every time the bath emptied - the bed linen smelt of damp and so did our clothes afterwards - there were damp patches situated throughout the cottage walls - the bedding in the twin bedroom was stained with what looked to be blood - photograph attached - the hive system didn’t operate as required and kept turning it self down to 10 degrees

Response on behalf of the Owner; This cottage has been fully booked every week since last Easter 2017. The guests never once informed us of any issues. Our number is in the guest book and on the email sent to the guest and we advise guests to call us immediately if there is something wrong, it is also on the notice board in the kitchen and a copy of the email is in a folder also. Previous to this booking, we had 2 contractors staying there for 4 weeks. There were no issues with the hive heating system and I have just returned myself after a week there, I have checked the system myself and had a gas engineer out to find it working correctly. The guest did not once call me to notify that they were cold. We always leave a blanket on the foot stool in the lounge throughout the year for guests to get comfy and relax, and I always have one at home. The guest asked me prior to the arrival where they got wood for the fire. I advised them that the fire was electric and it is not often used as there is gas central heating. I did not at any time say they could not use it. We also have a heater in case there was ever a problem or emergency -the fire does work and they could have put it on. The heating was on when the cleaner went in on the day of departure and she said the warmth hit her as she went through the front door. The heating is always on when guests arrive. The oven is fine and again has been used by other guests and myself last week - there are other means of cooking within the property, slow cooker, toaster, George Foreman grill, Panini warmer, 3 tower steamer and a microwave plus a brand new hob. We could not find any blood on any bedding even though the guests were not even using that bedroom in question. The shower does not fill with water after the bath is used and I have never known this to happen. I used the bath and shower myself and if there was an issue it would certainly overflow onto the bathroom floor. Upon the guests departure I had a text to say they had left a day early as they could not get warm, (6 days after their arrival). I have a lovely family that clean and maintain the cottage and grounds and it is checked twice weekly. We, at a moment’s notice, act on any issues or any requests within the hour and will try to resolve any issues immediately to ensure our guests stay is comfortable - if we do not know of any issues then we cannot rectify them and cannot help after the event. I am sorry that the guest felt the property was cold but the cottage was fully heated - I have turned the radiator setting up to max on the boiler even though it was almost on full. I am naturally disappointed at these comments as we want our guests to return but more so enjoy their stay. We are about to put new wooden flooring in the hallway and ceramic floor tiles in the bathroom to ensure guests comfort and convenience as this is important to us.

The cottage was in a nice quite location and the layout and size of the place was excellent. The only downside would be the place could really do with a good clean inbetween guests staying. Lots of cobwebs around the cottage with plenty of spiders. Outdoor decking area is really nice and catches the sun. We would stay again aslong as the cleanliness can be improved.

We recently stayed in July for a long weekend. 2 adults and 4 young children. Newton Cottage is a fantastic property. Located in a quiet, rural spot. Close to beaches and national trust attractions. A small garden with high rise decking but the kids loved the air hockey room and selection of board games. Bedrooms are of a good size. Kitchen met our needs and supplied all the cooking utensils required for a family meal. The Cottage was very neat and tidy also very clean. We will definitely stay again.. this time for longer... :)

It is a lovely house but let down by the cleanliness and odd little things. It wasn't terrible but skirting boards were dusty and there were cobwebs in many window sills and by the bedroom cabinets. Crumbs were left on the kitchen worktop and bedroom side cabinet. It felt like it needed a deep clean. Outside the grass needed cutting and again there were lots of cobwebs around the windows and doors. It just looked unkempt. The dishwasher was inadequate for 6 people and there were not enough mugs for 6 so we had to buy one. The blind in the twin room could not be tied up so the room was always in total darkness. The quilt on the master bedroom bed was not large enough, there was no over hang it just about covered the mattress although the quilt cover was the right size. The lounge furniture was of good quality and the sofas were very comfortable and there was plenty of space for 6adults. A good place to base yourself to explore Pembrokeshire.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. The garden has been maintained and the house repainted and we have addressed anything that has been a concern. We have also built an outside dog kennel for guests with pets and replaced the decking.
