We enjoyed our stay at Rook Cottage but it was too remote for us.

Security of the property was totally unsatisfactory as windows would not close / lock. One door would not lock. Furniture tired, uncomfortable and needs replacing. Equipment in the kitchen was generally unsafe, unclean and in need of replacing, eg, rusty baking tins, unstable ironing board etc. On arrival the kitchen bin had mouldy food at the bottom. Although the owner is quick to state contact if any problems this is not the case as after being previously informed November 2014 about windows which did not lock by a holidaymaker they were still not fixed June 2015. The location and site which this property is on is child friendly and in good order. This property can not be considered value for money.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are particularly disappointed in your experience at Rook Cottage as all other feedback has been positive. All the windows in this cottage close and have locks on the catches. Both external doors lock securely. This is the first time that any of our guests have wanted to actually lock the window catches in over ten years of our ownership. We understand that you were concerned about security (due to a friend’s earlier burglary) however, holidaymakers very often leave the properties on this site with windows and even doors open when they go out for the day. It is a rural location and the possibility of a burglary is extremely remote. With regards to the food in the bin, our previous guests had put a clean bin liner in the bin before departure; my cleaner did not take the bin liner out to check there was nothing underneath as one would expect a clean bin liner to be placed in a clean bin! This is our family holiday cottage and we consider the furnishings to be extremely comfortable, especially the settee which reclines and has been complimented greatly. We believe in offering our guests a home from home experience with extremely high levels of cleanliness and comfort, thus ensuring the stay is pleasant and comfortable. You can see from past customers that we have enjoyed high scores and so we were extremely disappointed to receive the score that you gave. Our visitor’s book is full of glowing reports which speaks for itself. We can only suggest that potential visitors to the Cottage also read the various other reviews on the website and draw their own conclusions about our beautiful holiday Cottage.
