Cottage very nice and well-equipped, but was freezing for the first 24 hours despite having a log fire - the storage heaters should have been switched on a day in advance of us arriving. There was no direct access to the beach - this was clearly stated on the firmly closed gate and in the letter from the farmer which we discovered in the cottage. This was disappointing because we couldn't walk our dog there and couldn't walk along to the nearby hotel. This would stop us wanting to stay at this cottage again.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We can assure all our future guests that there is no problem with direct access to the beach. The gate is firmly closed because the field often has livestock in it, although the field is huge and often no livestock can be seen, however the gate is not locked. In Scotland you have the right to roam and no gates can be locked or access blocked. With this right comes the responsibility to sensible and reasonable precautions in accessing farm land. In the three years that we have owned the property and have been operating as a holiday cottage there has never been any problems with access. It's a shame these guests didn't share this with us at the time of their stay as we could have resolved their concerns easily.

Great place to stay! Great location with wonderful sunset views and views on the Mull of Kintyre, the Isle of Islay and Gigha. Just 15 mins to Campbeltown and 30 mins to the ferry to Islay. The house is tidy, very nice and well equipped. Definetely a recommendation in Kintyre.

My wife and I enjoyed an excellent week with friends at New Mains. The house is spacious, cosy and well equipped, with the best views I think I've ever seen over Islay, Jura and the Mull of Kintyre - and what incredible sunsets! My favourite thing was to sit in the lounge window watching the sunset over the islands with a glass of whisky - heaven. The surrounding landscape is breathtaking and we found lots to occupy ourselves with, there's a pub just 20 minute stroll down the beach - what more do you need! We were also fortunate to have glorious weather, even in November. The owners were friendly and incredibly helpful. I would highly recommend New Mains and we will definitely be back next year.

A lovely home with sea views and beautiful sunset in the evening. Great pub just down the road. A great place for a quiet get away or a base for a bit of island hopping to Gigha ,Arran ,islay or dura.
