Description

Make the most of the facilities by relaxing in the pool, getting to know the farm animals or playing some table tennis.

"Colourful gardens amidst acres of farmland – just a mile from South Devon’s golden sands . . ."

Just a mile inland from the beach and sea at Man Sands, these five cottages enjoy a gloriously secluded rural situation on a 47-acre working farm, yet are convenient for the delights of picturesque Kingswear (1½ miles) and historic Dartmouth. Imaginatively formed within a charming group of barns, they are set in superb landscaped shared gardens. An indoor heated swimming pool and a sauna have been created in a separate building, and a further barn offers facilities for table tennis, pool table, ‘fun’ netball and badminton. A spacious play area within a walled garden is equipped with swings, a sand pit, adventure playground, large outdoor trampoline (with safety netting), a large lawned area with raised decking, complete with garden furniture and views over the surrounding countryside; and here there is also an indoor playroom with ball pool, climbing frame and a range of children’s ride-on tractors and cars for outdoor use. The gardens are a riot of colour, with flower beds, tubs, hanging baskets and an intriguing network of brick paths, courtyards and paved terraces. Further afield the estate includes a well-stocked one-acre fishing lake (rods not supplied). Children are welcome to help feed the animals; and there are goats, ponies, kune kune pigs, sheep, lambs, rabbits and guinea pigs to make friends with. The taste of rural life at Nethway continues with walks through the fields.
The cottages themselves have been meticulously converted, with careful use of traditional stone and slate. All are tastefully furnished and decorated throughout, and comprehensively equipped. All of the properties have their own patios with furniture (Hyssop and Lovage Cottages have their own lawned garden), and all enjoy shared use of a separate barbecue area. They are ideal for holidays at any time of the year – all properties are cosily heated throughout and this region is especially beautiful in the quieter off-season months. For Christmas and New Year holidays, each cottage has a festively decorated Christmas tree and the roaring log fires in all living rooms are ideal for the Autumn and Winter months. This peninsula is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is renowned for its coastline, which offers coastal walks and a choice of footpaths leading to secluded beaches. The village of Kingswear itself is set on the Dart estuary opposite Dartmouth – which can be reached via ferry. Here you will find a wealth of things to do, including the Kingswear–Paignton steam railway, Paignton Zoo and Woodlands Leisure Park, to name but a few, and many Blue Flag beaches and hidden coves are within easy reach. Coleton Fishacre (NT) is 1 mile away. Torquay, Brixham and Paignton offer an array of seaside attractions and are within easy driving distance. Dittisham and Totnes make excellent river excursions from Dartmouth, and Dartmoor is only 45 minutes drive. Golf, sailing and riding can all be enjoyed locally and the nearby coastline boasts a choice of surfing beaches. Shops 1½ miles.

We had a lovely time, lots to keep the little ones entertained and plenty of nearby places to visit. The house itself was great too. Very quiet location.

Another wonderful stay at Hyssop Cottage for the two of us, minus dogs this time round. Wonderful to sit in the communal garden space and just watch the numerous variety of beautiful birds and listen to them singing. The sheltered private garden likewise. The cottage is truly a home from home, very comfortable and well appointed. What makes the cottage special is the magnificent location; I can only describe the location as a little bit of Paradise. Thoroughly recommend the cottage and location to all who enjoy peace and quiet and beautiful scenery.

There were no Guinea pigs or rabbits for my daughter to feed. This is one of the main reasons for choosing the farm we found 2 pigs and some goats but they weren't accessible. My older daughters were disappointed that there was no other barn with a pool table in as there was nothing to do on a night due to the location and time of year. The cottage is very nice but quite cold as the radiators were on a timer and we could not override them.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are disappointed that you didn’t enjoy your holiday to the full; we are always available to talk to and help in any way. There are nine guinea pigs in the shed attached to your cottage, apologies if we didn’t make this clear however it is in the information folder. All the animals are accessible including the horses and donkeys. Unfortunately we have had the wettest winter for many years and for animal welfare reasons we have brought the donkeys and two of the pigs in to the warmth of the barn, all the guests have to do is open the gate and go in. When visiting a farm in the middle of winter wellies are an essential item. The fields that the goats and one of the pigs are in was muddy when you were here, however as has been mentioned before, the winter we have gone through has been the wettest and most difficult that we can remember. Two of the horses had to be moved to a drier field for their own welfare. The donkeys, pigs, horses and goats are happy to be petted and fed. The barn with the pool table, table tennis and table football is in the main barn accessed from the main yard which again is in the information folder. It was well used by our other regular guests that week. The radiators each have their own individual thermostats and can very easily be overridden which is explained by us when meeting and greeting and is in the "heating section" in the information folder. We set them at a higher temperature than recommended and have added extra portable heaters to be used if needed. All of these issues could have easily been resolved if you had come and spoken to one of us. It goes without saying that we want you to enjoy your time at Nethway Farm, and are disappointed that you weren't able to approach us with these problems.

Outstanding tranquil location. Cottages in a picturesque hamlet type development set within the farm. The gardens around the cottages are so pretty and well cared for, it looks almost like a film set of bygone times. Although there are five holiday cottages together we were not aware of other holiday makers for 98% of the time. If anyone is looking for a quiet location to get away from the rat race this venue is thoroughly recommended. Hyssop Cottage is extremely well equipped and comfortable and has a homely atmosphere. Small dog owners should be aware that an adventurous dog can escape from the enclosed rear garden. As the garden slopes the fence panels are raised slightly from ground leve at the top end of the garden leaving space for dogs to escape underneath the panels into the adjoining garden. The cottage does have differing floor levels on ground and first floors, as is typical in any cottage of such great age, the two steps from the kitchen to the living area are quite quite deep, as is the one step on the first floor from one area of the landing down to the lower area by the bathroom and second bedroom, both could give less agile adults or children some problems. We enjoyed our stay at the cottage and immediately on return from our holiday booked again to return in the spring of next year. The owners were helpful and friendly but did not interfere or bother us in any way whilst we were staying on their farm. They made every effort to ensure that we enjoyed our holiday.

This holiday cottage was better than expected. The size of the cottage and furniture inside and out was really good. Everything was there no need to take anything other than your suitcase. My 2 yr old had a ball with the animals and the outdoor toys on offer is amazing. The pool was always clean and warm and we had many a fun afternoon in there as a family. Can't wait to go back next year!

What a brill location with everything you could wish for without leaving the site if you didn't want to. The pool, play areas, lovely walks for the dogs etc etc was a real boon especially for the 2 very young kids. Overall a really pleasant place to stay.
