Myrtle Cottage is a homely property in a prime position for exploring all that the wonderful South Devon has to offer.

This charming, white-washed, thatched holiday cottage, end of a row, dates back to 1750 and is set on the main road in the village of Chillington, in the heart of South Devon only 9 miles from Salcombe. The property is pet friendly, with an enclosed garden and a large dog crate available if required. The local estuary town of Kingsbridge has a variety of shops, a museum, cinema and sports centre. There are a wide selection of beaches in the area, including dog friendly ones. Salcombe can be reached by either road or by a small passenger ferry once in east Portlemouth. Boating trips, hire boats and diving trips can be arranged in the Salcombe/Kingsbridge estuary. Visit historic Dartmouth with its bustling harbour, castle, contemporary art galleries and boutiques. In the opposite direction is Plymouth with something everyone, including the historical port with its Navy connections, aquarium, theatre, shops and museums. The breathtaking scenery of Dartmoor National Park is only 40 minutes away from its southern tip of Ivybridge. There are many National Trust properties, stately homes and interesting gardens within a short drive. Local shop/post office 200 yards, pub 150 yards.

Large beamed living room with wood-burning stove (decorative use only) and wooden floor. Kitchen with dining area, tiled floor and French doors leading to rear garden and flagstone patio. Had a fantastic week in this lovely cottage in a great location. Cottage really well equipped with lots of wardrobe space and comfy furniture. Had everything you needed in the kitchen and only negative was the wood burner was not working which in February would have been welcomed. Would definitely book this cottage again and welcome homemade Victoria sponge Mich appreciated 😀

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for the positive feedback. The stove unfortunately is not able to be used at present, but it is something we are looking into.

Whilst Myrtle cottage is a lovely property we felt it did not entirely suit our needs.Well set up with everything you could need on holiday.Obviously set as owners second home and not the minimal holiday let set up.The biggest disadvantages were lack of parking and the narrowing of the road which just became a nuisance. The cottage was dark and the lighting not bright enough. The Tv reception was limited to a few channels and there was no phone, which we felt was essential since there was no mobile reception for our phones. The bathroom also caused the whole upstair rooms to fill with condensate when having a bath or shower. It is an impressive property which has been tastefully put together, but these snags detracted and we would therfore not return.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I am glad you found the cottage well equipped. I am sorry you found the cottage dark; however, it does have a selection of lights. There is a problem with mobile phones in the area, depending on your network. Mine does not work that well, my husbands is fine. I tend to use the internet to make calls which I have always found works fine. However, there is phone box across the road should you have needed it. The TV has normal Freeview channels about 14 and there is a DVD player. As regard to the parking, you are advised that it is not at the cottage but close by. One of your party wrote in the guest book that four days was not enough and the cottage was cosy and festive.

Myrtle Cottage was fantastic, it made our stay so lovely. The cottage is very well equipped and everything was of high standard. I was a bit concerned as there was no parking outside the cottage, but we were able to park a very short distance away and we were able to load and off load outside the cottage. The welcome tray, a lovely home made Victoria sponge was delicious. We were able to visit many beaches and the dog was welcome due to the time of year. A shame there was an issue with the chimney so that the wood burner could not be used, as that would have been the icing on the cake. The garden was perfect for our little dog as it was well enclosed and there was no chance of escape, but I should warn anyone that the front door does open onto the main road so you have to careful when opening the front door to ensure dog cannot dash out. The only minor issue I had was that we used the twin beds which were zipped together and unfortunately the 2 single duvet that were on the beds kept slipping off during the night which did disturb our sleep, I would suggest that when the beds are zipped together then it would be better to replace the single duvets with a king size duvet. We will be returning for another holiday as it was a lovely stay.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for the lovely feedback. We will be purchasing a double quilt for the bed so you can have the option of two singles or double quilt depending on your preferred choice.

Located well within reach of many fabulous beaches. Cleanliness top notch and superb cake on arrival. Several home comforts in fact more so than many places I have stayed at before. Relaxed and homely feel to the cottage. Lots of local info too with guide books available. Kids toys books surf boards bucket and spade all available for use. A perfect cottage for a perfect get away. Loved it!!

Lovely relaxing fortnight in a lovely cottage in a superb area of outstanding beauty. Only very minor downside was the lack of a tumble dryer.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your great feedback and pleased you liked the cottage. With regard to having a tumble dryer I did have a washer/dryer but found the clothes were too creased. Next time I need to replace it I will look again to see if I can find something that reduces the ironing but dries the clothes.
