Customers’ Choice Award 2017 & 2018
Oozing with charm this converted school has a cosy multi-fuel burner to keep you warm and a terraced garden to relax in the sun.

This beautifully restored, detached former village school dates back to 1895 and offers a unique and interesting base from which to enjoy the stunning south Kilkenny countryside. Oozing character and charm inside, whilst outside the terraced gardens and seating areas boast stunning panoramic views stretching for miles. Saint Moling’s Holy Well, an area of natural and stunning beauty, is close to the cottage. It is a peaceful retreat and its holy water has been known to cure in the past. Within a 10-minute drive is the picturesque riverside village of Inistioge, known as the ’Jewel of the South East’ and where many films have been made, including ’Circle of Friend’, ’Widows Peak’ and ’The Secret Scripture’. The cottage lies 15 minutes from the main Waterford to Dublin motorway, and Mount Juliet with its fine golf course. The neighbouring counties of Waterford and Wexford can be reached within 20 minutes. New Ross is close by with its famous Dunbrody Famine Ship and visitor centre, and of course the John F. Kennedy Monument and Memorial Park. Wexford has some beautiful beaches to explore, or visit Reginald’s Tower Exhibition Centre and a crystal factory with guided tours at Waterford. For hill walking, the South Leinster Way is nearby, and for fishing, there are great fishing villages on the River Nore. A little further a field is vibrant medieval Kilkenny city, where numerous festivals are held throughout the year, including Cat’s Laugh Comedy, Roots Music and art festivals to name but a few. It offers fine dining and traditional music including one of Ireland’s most haunted pubs! Shop and pub 3½ miles, restaurant 5 miles.

We had a lovely week staying at Mullinakill school. It's a beautiful cottage in an isolated but beautiful area. There is so much to see in the area and nice to get back to cottage at the end of the day. Lorraine and Martin were so welcoming and helped us with ideas of places to see. A lovely surprise to have a welcome pack when we arrived. We would definitely go back and stay again another year.

Our stay at the school house was great. It was really comfortable and we didn't want for anything. The views were gorgeous, much time can be spent at the top of the garden. We thought our hosts were lovely and would definitely recommend this product.

This is a remote location so definitely need to have transport. Having said that if peace and quiet, plus a fantastic view is what is wanted then this place needs to be considered. The roads are not that bad and very quiet so driving is not too much of an issue. We used this as a base to travel around an area which is steeped in beauty and history. Our host Lorraine was extremely friendly and accommodating.

Keen to escape busy city life, we booked a family holiday at Mullinakill School - we were not disappointed! The house is positioned in beautiful countryside which can be appreciated from the lovely and well-kept front and rear gardens. Considering its peaceful and remote location, many places of interest can be reached within a short drive. We particularly enjoyed the Woodstock gardens and Arboretum, just a 10 minute drive and cycling the breathtaking Waterford Greenway with its viaducts, tunnel and panoramic coastal views. While we enjoyed a few day trips out, we were always excited to return to the old school house in the evenings. The owner was a pleasure to communicate with and even provided us with a full breakfast for the first day - thank you!

Great place to stay. We had two cottages while in Ireland, this being the first one we stayed at. After staying at our second place for a night we just wanted to go back to our schoolhouse!!

My wife and I had a thoroughly relaxing week at the cottage and Lorraine made us feel welcome. The location is stunning and the peace and quiet was heavenly. We both look forward to returning next year for another recharge. At this location you will definitely need a car or bikes (if you are fit).
