Beautiful clean cottage and friendly, approachable owners. Good base to tour around the area; Bude being the closest beach resort but Bideford only half hour away (recommended - also where the nearest Wetherspoons is if you're a fan of their excellent value daily meal deals!) plus Clovelly and Croyde Bay (just over an hour away). Top tip is to get a shopping delivery to get you started for a few days as only Waitrose and Coop in Holsworthy. ASDA deliver to the cottage. Few essentials were waiting for us though which was very welcome plus scones, jam and clotted cream! Highly recommended. Thank you again to the owners for a comfortable stay in beautiful surroundings.

Very rural location although great for country walks. Plenty of beautiful gardens to relax in or children to play in. Fully equipped cottage, clean and very spacious. Very good value for a restful holiday.

Met on arrival by the owner who showed us round. We were really surprised that she had provided fresh scones, jam and cream for us which was very welcome. The cottage provided plenty of space for our group. The games room was welcome and used by both adults and children. We were blessed with wonderful weather so were able to use the bar - b -q , plenty of outside seating provided. Plenty of cutlery and crockery provided. Only one small point is that the cottage sleeps 9 but the fridge is very small for a party of this size.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. Since your stay, an additional under counter fridge has been supplied in the property which will make food storage easier.

We (four adults, three children) stayed at Monkey Puzzle Cottage for one week in Feb 2016. Upon arrival, the owners (who live next door) were extremely helpful in helping us settle in, and they even left us delicious cakes in the kitchen! The cottage is spacious and well-kept, and had all the facilities and equipment we required - I particularly liked the log-burning stove, and the kids enjoyed spending time in the play barn. The cottage is located near to some quiet country lanes (ideal for myself and my wife to go running), and a 20min walk/5min drive from Holsworthy. We had a great holiday, and I would highly recommend the cottage.

Lovely cottage and facilities. We all had a great time and would come again. Everything was wonderful, the only things that could be improved were having a few sharp knives that were not wobbly, and more comfortable beds.

We stayed at Monkey Puzzle Cottage for one week from 11/7/15. There were 7 of us, with ages ranging from 14 to 84. The cottage is in a quiet location, yet ideally situated for the roads network. This was just as well since most of the things we wanted to do were an hour’s drive in different directions on each day so we were well located even though there was little on the doorstep. The cottage was clean and well-kept and the upstairs bedrooms were bright and airy, the two downstairs rooms were rather gloomy though. The gardens were a delight and someone obviously spends a lot of time on them! The kitchen was small but useable, and storage included an under-counter fridge with freezer compartment plus a separate under counter upright freezer. To be honest we could have done with less freezer space and a bigger fridge as two shelves and a salad box for 7 people was not nearly enough. Take your own knives or a good sharpener as none of those provided (and there were plenty) was really usable. Had we read the details properly we may not have booked as there is no dishwasher – essential for a party of this size. The welcome book consisted of lots of leaflets for attractions across Devon and Cornwall, but little in the way of local information such as which local pubs were best , what to do about recycling, or other useful information. We had a great time as we rarely get together as a family, but will probably go somewhere else next year as we felt we had done this area and perhaps need somewhere that involves less driving on a daily basis.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are sorry that you were not happy with some aspects of your stay at our cottage. Unfortunately, as nothing was brought to our attention whilst you were staying with us, we were unable to action anything that would have been under our control. However, since your stay, an additional under counter fridge has been supplied as have additional sharp knives. The cottage has not been advertised as having a dishwasher in the details, and we are sorry that you had not noticed this. The cottages' location is generally found to be situated in an area with plenty of things to do and see / visit quite locally and most of our guests find they do not have time to see everything around here. However, if things you wished to visit were an hour’s drive each day in different directions, then whatever location you chose would not be ideal as long travel distances would always be there. The recycling information has been updated in the file to make it clearer.
