Description

In the surrounding area, there are many tourist attractions to enjoy. After a day out, why not dine alfresco with the BBQ.

In a tranquil village setting, 2 miles from the sandy beach at Paignton, these three adjoining single-storey holiday cottages, imaginatively converted from former farm buildings, retain splendid original roof beams and stone walls (references 29076, 29077 and 29078). Adjacent to the owner’s home, around the same pretty courtyard garden with a pond and fountain, they are attractively furnished in ‘New England’ style. The South Hams boasts the mildest climate in Britain. Paignton, 2 miles, and Torquay, 4 miles, has sailing, tennis and sports centre and coloured lights festoon the harbour by night. It has many good sandy beaches, giving it an almost Mediterranean feel. Inland is the medieval town of Totnes, with a castle and 16th-century buildings, and once a week, there is an Elizabethan and farmers’ market. From the quayside, there are boat trips down the River Dart to Dartmouth; the South Devon Railway runs steam trains to Buckfastleigh and along the coast to Kingswear, opposite Dartmouth. Take a ferry across to visit Dartmouth with its array of shops and restaurants, take a walk around the castle and enjoy one of the tea shops for a Devon cream tea. Within easy reach is the spectacular Dartmoor National Park. There are many tourist attractions close by including Agatha Christie’s summer home, Babbacombe’s model village and the award-winning Paignton Zoo. Away from the coast, visit Tavistock, where you can enjoy some dramatic scenery. There are many National Trust properties and plenty of surfing, swimming, sailing and angling. Torquay has a lot to offer, such as the Living Coasts, where the penguins wander freely, and the theatre which has shows all year round. The Roman city of Exeter is 15 miles, whilst bustling Torbay encompasses Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. Visit the yachting marina and a selection of fine gardens, in addition to Kent’s Cavern where the remains of some of Britain’s very earliest inhabitants were found. Discover the castles, abbeys, wildlife parks, steam trains and model railways, all within easy reach with many open throughout the year. Shop 700 yards, pub and restaurant 400 yards.

we enjoyed a very relaxing time at the cottage which is ideally situated should you just want some quiet time or on the doorstep to the fantastic sights that Torbay and the surrounding area has to offer.

Nice cottage could have been cleaner. Found dust little toy and sweet paper side of bed. Cottage needs a bit of TCL. Thought there was a lot of rules and regulations. Parking was awful. Location very good. Owners friendly.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are obviously very disappointed to read your comments and do hope it did not spoil your holiday too much. To deal with your points you do have a duty at the time to have made us aware of any shortcomings in the cleanliness of the cottage so we could have seen it. We would then have been able to take remedial action and speak to the cleaning team to find out why the cottage was left like this. Cottages are cleaned weekly on the “turn around” and whilst we have been very busy over the summer, this is not an excuse for poor work which we expect to have been done. I am bemused by your comment on rules and regulations and what this refers to. Certainly there are rules in most hotels and accommodation for the mutual benefit of guests in order to ensure everyone has a pleasant stay so I would be grateful to know what you found unacceptable. There is not much we can do about parking and the majority of our guests never have problems. You were quite welcome to leave your vehicle on the roadway rather than in the compound. As far as the cottage needing some TLC, I am afraid this is a matter of personal opinion. In the weeks following your stay we have had very positive comments in our guest book about the cottage which contradict your opinion so it really is a matter of personal perception. It is after all a cottage with typical décor to fit this brief rather than a modern hotel / B&B and this can be clearly seen in the pictures on the website.

A shaver point in a bathroom would have been useful. However there was the luxury of having two bathrooms. The owners Mr and Mrs Waller went out of their way to be helpful and looked after us extremely well.
