Our stay at May House was over the New Year holiday period, we found the house to be extremely comfortable and within easy walking distance of all local amenities. The bed linen and towels were all good quality and the house was very tastefully furnished. The house was very warm, I imagine due to good insulation as we did not require the central heating to be on for any length of time. As well as the pool room the house was equipped with plenty board games to keep us occupied on the rainy days. The town of Crail is lovely with three hotels for eating out, we also managed a few good walks along the coastal path. I would recommend this house and Crail for a lovely holiday location.

No toilet roll provided. No oven. No hot water - boiler switched off. Microwave filthy. Back garden overgrown until 2 days before we left. Unable to contact owner as she was out the country. We made the best of it for the sake of my husband's mother who has recently been ill but, found it quite stressful carrying kettles of hot water around just to have a wash.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your review and your comments therein. It is always helpful to know where improvements are required and we value your feedback. We are addressing the comments on the microwave and toilet paper with our cleaner. This is a basic standard that should be correct - had I known during your stay I would have rectified it immediately. You should not have to clean when you arrive - we have always enjoyed high marks for cleanliness and it is really important to us as you might imagine. We have a contract with a firm in place to care for the garden - we had been advised that it had been too wet to cut the grass hence the length of grass for which I can only apologise. We have since made alternative arrangements. I know you had marked us down for comfort but as you know, our new sofa is due in a few weeks time - we could not bring delivery forward. Sadly, replacing the sofa has been necessary following guests who stayed with us for a number of weeks - I think I mentioned we had to make a significant investment in replacing damaged furnishings ...one of which is the sofa. It was really bad-luck that one of the two ovens broke down but as you said, "you would manage with the top oven for the week" for which I was grateful when we spoke on the telephone...I instructed a repair the very next day and it has since been repaired - as an "element" had gone. Sadly, the Central Heating and Hot Water took a while to discover what was wrong. I had had it serviced a few weeks prior to your visit and on the day of your arrival I had the local plumbing company check it and they said it was working. Now I understand from them it is a fan that needs replaced...this was not picked up before your visit and again, I can only apologise. For safety, the Boiler will switch to off when it detects a fault of this nature - this had not been picked up. I was in Jersey/ France during your stay which is why my number was unobtainable - I am so sorry you did not use the alternative number or indeed phone Cottages4U - they are a great help. There is thankfully, a hot water tank - which I believe you were using, for safety reasons this does not run in tandem with the gas central heating as the water is scalding when both are running; and for Health & Safety reasons it is prudent to keep just the Gas Central Heating and hot water switched on...luckily, as we agreed - it is a warm house and the Hot Water Heater is ample for baths and showers...am thankful you used it. For health and safety purposes we advise that all guests do not attempt to reset the boiler. Again, I am so sorry that you had experienced less than 100% experience at May House...when we spoke, and prior to your review, we had made you a return visit/ offer as a gesture of goodwill which I hope you decide to take us up on at some time in the future. Once again, we appreciate you taking the time to both discuss this on the telephone and indeed for your review.
