This cottage would have been almost perfect but for the steep hill down into Bakewell, along with parking away from it, further uphill, and unloading/loading. A handrail on stone steps would be very useful, adding to safety. There was no hairdryer- these days there is usually one provided. House sign was difficult to spot under dark, overhanging greenery and can only be seen approaching from one direction.

The building work started early in the morning and the noise was very intrusive. Lots of grinding stone. Also the front stone steps were very steep and slippery particularly when they were wet . My daughter slid from top to bottom of them so this would totally rule out this cottage for anyone who was elderly a rail might help.

Whilst there were aspects to May cottage which were good - the kitchen facilities and the bedding, the property is in need of redecoration and gives an overall impression of shabbiness/lack of care. There is no on site parking and local parking is difficult to secure. The steep steps up to the property need a handrail. I doubt the garden area can be enjoyed fully due to the sloping aspect. There were several cupboards cluttered with random household items. Asking holiday makers to arrive late in the afternoon and leave early on the day of vacating gives an overall feeling of cutting the holiday short and therefore not getting value for money.

It was great to have some lovely treats when we got there, such as buns, chocolate rolls, coffee and tea bags - a nice touch! The cottage was cosy, well heated and spacious. Fridge was a good size. Everything worked well and was clean and tidy.

Fantastic cottage in quaint peak district town. Plenty to see and do. We were however otherwise engaged.
