An enchanting thatched cottage for two, bursting with character and an open fire, it’s ideal at any time of the year.

An enchanting little 17th-century, thatched holiday cottage for two, set in the garden of the owner’s country house in the Downland village of Bury, which lies in the middle of the South Downs National Park. The interior is bursting with character with beams, open fire and pretty furnishings. There are lovely views of the shared garden. Bury is the perfect English village with the River Arun passing close by the 13th-century church at the old ferry, and the South Downs Way stretching out on either side. Within easy reach are Amberley Wild Brooks with RSPB nature reserve; Arundel Castle and Wildfowl Trust; the Amberley Museum; the Roman Villa at Bignor; the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum at Singleton; Chichester with its Festival Theatre; Goodwood motor sport, golf, horseracing, as well as plenty of country houses and gardens to visit nearby. Had a great time at Martins cottage. Just what we needed for a quiet weekend. The owner was friendly and helpful and had the fire ready when we arrived which was lovely. I have only good things to say about the cottage and looking for the next time I can go back!

The host Rosemary is lovely. I called her a couple of days before to let her know what time we would be arriving. Upon arrival a fully lit fire welcomed us. Very romantic little place. Kitchen really well equipped.

Lovely little cottage great fire very cosy very helpful owner not an awful lot local but very nice pub just down the road that's fine. Great position for exploring the South Downs also Worthing Littlehampton not very far only thing that spoilt it for us was the bed wasn't very comfortable

Although that our break was brief, we absolutely enjoyed the comfort and surroundings of the cottage and would definitely recommend anyone to visit the area and experience an old style of cottage with modern comforts!

Great base to work out from in West Sussex. Plenty to go and see. Cottage is cosy, well located, great for short break.

We enjoyed our stay at Martins cottage and were warmly welcomed. The overall rating is lower than we would have given had there been a proper over bath shower. We are both fit pensioners but getting in and out of a bath from a sitting position is difficult. The existing mixer shower does not work as changing height during use changes the water temperature dramatically, even if it did work there is no hook for the rose or a curtain. This is the only criticsm we have and would definitely stay again if there was a nice electric shower and curtain. Until then we could not, much as we liked the area, the cottage and appreciated the welcome and efforts made by the owners to ensure we enjoyed our stay.
