Description

Enjoy a coastal holiday from this Grade II listed property, situated right in the heart of Polperro with its harbour, pubs and restaurants.

This Grade II listed, former fisherman’s cottage sits in a quiet lane in this pretty Cornish fishing village, just minutes from the historic working harbour and village centre. Polperro has all that you imagine of a quaint fishing village, and this holiday cottage sits within the narrow winding streets that are home to fishermen’s pubs, galleries, bakeries, cafés, restaurants and shops selling locally caught seafood and local crafts. This house provides the ideal base for that special Cornish holiday. The historic fishing port of Looe is also close by and can be reached along the dramatic coastal path. It has a superb sandy beach providing an excellent day out for the family. Why not visit the local renowned fish market, which sells fresh fish straight off the boats in the harbour, for that special evening meal? The sheltered bays of Talland and Lantic all offer excellent swimming and bathing against the backdrop of the dramatic Cornish coastline. The scenic Cornish Coastal Path can be accessed nearby, leading visitors through stunning scenery, much of which is National Trust land. The famous seafaring town of Fowey, once the home of Daphne Du Maurier, can also be reached by catching the regular ferry across the Fowey River. The abundance of vineyards, orchards and gardens in the regional are a tribute to the mild climate, with the spectacular Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan within half an hour’s drive. Equidistant is the ancient fishing village of Mevagissey, its double harbour a colourful array of traditional vessels and pleasure craft. For those who can bear to tear themselves away from the coast, there are many wonderful attractions further inland, such as Bodmin Moor and the slate caverns near St Neot. Plymouth is 25 miles away. Fishing, sailing, horse riding, tennis and golf are available locally. Beach 100 yards. Shop 100 yards, pub 50 yards, restaurant 25 yards.

Ground floor: Dining room/kitchen with slate floor. First floor: Living room with beams. Shower room with toilet. Second floor: 1 double (5ft) bedroom with beams.

Electric woodburner in dining room included. NSH, electricity, bed linen and towels included. 32" Freeview TV. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washing machine. Parking (1 car), 150 yards. No smoking. NB: Steep steps in grounds.

Lovely little cottage and very pretty village but no real food shops to speak of apart from bakery so useful to bring some provisions with you! Nice pubs and a couple of good restaurants. the village is a beauty spot and does get busy so being able to enjoy the little garden at the back would be a real asset to Marigold cottage and this is my only concern as it is dying for a bit of maintenance and t l c ,it could provide a really relaxing little spot with a bit of attention.... The cottage itself could do with a coat of paint on the outside but is really homely ,full of character and nicely done up inside, my only concern there was that the washing machine was not a washer dryer as advertised but there was a folding dryer available and we were able to dry things indoors.

Great location and a good size for a couple. The damp really needs addressing though and the whole place just needs a bit of tlc.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner- Thank you for your feedback though the remarks about the damp seem to be a little confusing. We were never made aware of the issue about the damp at the time of your stay, if you was to have mentioned this, our cleaner who is opposite the cottage could have looked into resolving this immediately. Our cottage is 400 years old, and it does not benefit from cavity wall insulation, due to very strict planning permission in Cornwall. If the weather is damp outside, it can reflect in the cottage, such as the condensation on the windows. This cottage is a very popular property, we do appreciate it won’t be looking as fresh at the moment, due to back to back bookings but it will be getting a lick of paint in quieter times. If you look at our previous Reevoo comments you can see our property is loved by many.

A gorgeous little cottage set in picturesque Polperro. Excellent communication with the owner beforehand and felt very welcome in our home away from home. Polperro is lovely, but be warned if you're staying at Marigold Cottage that the roads are just as narrow as promised!

the cottage is in a very good location in the little fishing village. added advantage - own parking space. fully equipped, lovely bedroom at the top of the cottage. it doesnt get any sun inside the cottage and the garden isnt one to spend any time in. Dog friendly, very narrow with small staircases between each room, quaint! - no bath but shower was nice and hot

The kitchen was cold, dark and damp. The cleanliness of the cottage was lacking with cobwebs in numerous places. The very steep steps to the terraced seating areas made the seating areas unusable to all but the very sure footed. the cottage could be really lovely it's time and effort spent on it. The village itself was lovely and the locals very friendly and helpful.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback though the remarks are somewhat disappointing. It seems these guests did not address any comment to my cleaner who lives opposite. If anyone was going to deal with the cobwebs it would have been her. The guests did ask her for an extra heater despite it being during the summer and there being a large radiator in each room, plus a powerful portable heater in the kitchen. I telephoned the guests on their 3rd day and spoke to a lady who basically said all was ok but the switch near the front door did not work. This was news to me and so I contacted the cleaner and it seems the central lighting strip in the kitchen was broken. My cleaners are told to check all lights when doing a changeover so I apologise to my guests that this may not have happened. However there are several table lamps elsewhere in the cottage and a powerful light on the rear kitchen wall plus torches. My pre-holiday paperwork to guests mentions inter alia, the garden with 2 terraces, etc. and there is a health and safety notice by the back door that states “steep steps”. The cottages are tiered up onto the cliffs and as my information states; “views over the rooftops” therefore indicating it is not street level. I’m not sure what was damp, the weather was not good and Coverack was damp. Happily, as a glance at my visitor’s book indicates, most of my guests have no such reservations as those expressed in this review.

The 2nd year in a row that we've stayed at Marigold, so we know what to expect and once again we weren't disappointed. The wrought iron railings up to the garden are a welcome, and attractive, addition. We were initially horrified to discover our visit coincided with the Polperro Music Festival, especially as the Cottage is around 100metres from the main stage, but we thoroughly enjoyed the week's events which added a new fun aspect to a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Next year booked already :)
