Description

A perfect retreat for four, explore the estate and discover the tracks and cycle paths throughout the forest.

Within a traditional steading courtyard, these three charming holiday cottages (refs 30101, 30102 and 30103) are in the heart of a working hill farm in the picturesque Tweedsmuir Hills in the Scottish Borders. With wonderful hill walking and biking, they are ideal for those seeking a comfortable base close to outdoor activities, or a peaceful retreat in a lovely rural setting, and for stalking, shooting and fishing in season. Although apparently remote, Edinburgh is only a scenic hour away and Glasgow is a little further. Converted from original stabling for carriage horses, the holiday cottages have been thoughtfully equipped and furnished with a generous provision of en-suite facilities and can accommodate up to 12 guests in all. For around 30 years hydro power has provided clean energy for the farm and steading and a computerised 9-pin bowling alley with a spacious entertainment area is available by arrangement (at cost). There is a network of well-established tracks and forest rides throughout the estate’s unspoiled open hills and forests along both sides of the upper reaches of the River Tweed, and most of the farm is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The summit of Broad Law 2,790ft, is a good hike rewarded by panoramic views on a clear day and Hearthstanes is midway along the 121 mile Solway to Forth Cycle ride. Enjoy a wonderfully scenic drive past Tweedsmuir Reservoir to St Mary’s Loch and down to Selkirk, or visit historic Traquair House and Gardens at Dawyk and Kailzie, where there is an osprey watch, from Easter to late August. Shop, pub and restaurant 13 miles.

Two sets of dogs barking in other cottages within the courtyard, setting each other off the first night. No view of countryside from either the sitting room or twin bedroom windows, only a huge wooden shed which completely blocks the view. Nice kitchen, helpful list of what was on locally that weekend and pretty courtyard which is the only view shown on the web of Cottage No 1 . Fantastic countryside locally, helped by glorious late summer weather for our stay. Excellent shopping and museums in Biggar, lovely Broughton show and good tourist destinations in the Border towns near by.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: Thank you for your feedback and we apologise that your stay was not as you intended. We do offer all of our guests the option of bringing two of their pets with them during their stay. As for the wooden shed, it belongs to the Civil Aviation Authority, so unfortunately we have no control over its location. We would very greatly appreciate however, an elaboration of your cleanliness score of three, as cleanliness is something on which we pride ourselves. Under no circumstances do we want our guests to feel the way you did during your stay, and if you ever were to visit us again, we would ask that you voice any concerns you might have directly to us as soon as they arise, so we can remedy them as soon as possible. We want all of our guests to leave satisfied with their stay. Again, our sincere apologies and thank you for the review. Ralph
