Description

This beautiful 17th century cottage, part of a former grain mill, is situated in the picturesque village of Bampton, with Tiverton, Taunton and Exeter easily accessible.

Mill Cottage is a hidden gem, set in a peaceful retreat in the heart of a conservation area. The cottage is just 50 yards off Bampton high street with its shops, restaurants and cosy pubs, yet come through the 5 bar gate and into the garden, and you will find yourself in a tranquil haven. The River Batherm runs down the side of the garden, and there are beautiful open views over the surrounding fields and hills.

Grade II listed, Mill Cottage has a lovely beamed sitting and dining area, and 3 bedrooms (2 doubles and 1 twin). It is full of character and has been renovated in keeping with its 17th century origins. Fluffy towels and Egyptian cotton bed linen are provided, and guests have shared use of the grounds with the opportunity to fish from the riverbank. The owners live on-site with 3 dogs and a pair of cats.

Bampton offers really good village amenities, and is one of the gateways to Exmoor National Park with its stunning scenery, Exmoor ponies and red deer. The West Somerset and North Devon coastlines are an easy drive, as is access to the larger towns of Tiverton, Taunton and Exeter. Nearby are a number of National Trust properties, and within 5 miles, Wimbleball Lake offers fantastic walks and water sport activities. 1 friendly dog is welcome, to share the fully enclosed garden with the owners’ dogs.

Enjoyed a lovely break with our Daisy our jack russell. Very convenient location just a short walk from the shops, pubs etc in the village - good selection of shops including a butcher, bakers, small supermarket, fish and chip shop etc. Cottage is very cosy and had everything we needed.

Our first impression was excellent due to the warm welcome from the owners who were there to meet us with their beautiful dogs. Not only were they very welcoming and friendly but they had left a fresh load of bread and a cake. The cottage was beautifully presented, the rooms clean and neat with fresh bed linen and fluffy towels. The kitchen was small but well equiped, the space used well. Bampton is a quiet village with a number of places to stop for a morning coffee and a well stocked Spar. There are a number of pubs serving food but none of them appealed to us. There isn't much to do locally, a car is needed even to find places to walk. However, a 15 minute drive takes you to Wimbleball Park which has lots to do, Tiverton, Exmoor and a choice of National Trust places. Exeter is a half hour drive and well worth a few visits, lots to see and do and great places to eat. We enjoyed a peaceful much needed break at Mill Cottage. The cottage provides a great place to relax, more than just 'a base'. As long as you're prepared to drive, there is something to do to suit everyone.

A beautiful cottage in a perfect location. We were welcomed with local bread, tiffin, and fresh milk by lovely owners. We wanted for nothing! Pretty Bampton boasts great restaurants, pubs a fab bread shop, butcher and green grocers, deli, cafes a first class chippy ......and lots more. A perfect base for our family get together just a few miles from the M5 . We will return.

Enjoyed a short break at Mill Cottage with my mum and children in May half term. The cottage was comfortable and well-equipped and Carol and Alastair were welcoming hosts. The children loved playing with the four dogs in the spacious garden. Bampton is a lovely village with a range of ships and places to eat, and the surrounding roads are quiet and a pleasure to drive on. We hope to return soon.

Hosts Carol and Alistair are very welcoming. The cottage is homely and the garden is lovely - fabulous for our spaniel Monty who loved playing with Carol and Alistair's pointers. Great location for exploring Exmoor.

We had a cosy and fun holiday in North Devon/ Somerset. The cottage was the cosy element. We all loved it (including my children who are 11 years of age and very sensible and considerate to other peoples properties, if I may say so). The owners were very welcoming, and provided fresh bread, cake and milk for us. This was a very lovely touch. All rooms are fully equipped. I was surprised to see coffee and tea, and cleaning products, even shower gel, and enough toilet paper etc. All these little things made it so special to us. It was super cosy. I slept very well in these beds, which were all made up with soft bedding. And towels were provided, too. Nothing was amiss. Perfect stay for us :-) The location is great, too. Every town is within easy reach (by car). Exmoor National Park is literally on their door steps. We enoyed seeing the Tarr Steps and driving up to the highest peak was an adventour. Lynton and Lymoth was a great beach destination (were went on the Cliff Railway), and Exmoor Zoo. We also drove to Woolacombe beach (just an hour car drive away). Beautiful beach :-) We definitely would recommend it highly to friends and family.
