We had a lovely time at Mallards Lodge. This area of North Devon has a lot to offer but you do need to be prepared to drive for any shopping or attractions. There are at least 2-3 miles of narrow lanes before you hit the A road in any direction. We had teenagers and a younger child, so enjoyed 4 local beaches, swimming, surfing, looking around coastal villages and going to Milky Way adventure park. The cabin, although compact, was well designed and easily accommodated 6 of us, which was important a the weather was patchy. The kitchen/dining/living room area worked well giving different areas for TV, reading, games and cooking. All the equipment and electronics worked well. The decor and standard of furnishing was good. Two bathrooms and enough storage space really helped too. My only comment is that the decking needs repairing in parts and is well overdue a coat of paint. This would make the whole property look so much better. The site is pleasant and although there are a lot of cabins, we never felt crowded and the overall feel is quiet. There was a mixture of families and older couples, some of whom seem to be owner occupiers and some holiday renters. The private fishing ponds are pleasant although the keycode we were given initially was wrong. Mallard Lodge is set away form the road which did make it quieter and more private, but would not suit anyone who had difficulty carrying luggage 20 yards or so.

Response on behalf of the owner; We are rather surprised and disappointed to learn that the property was not presented to our usual, high standard. We apologise for the shortcomings listed which have been brought to the attention of the cleaning contractor.

Loved It. Remote but offering lots to do within a short car journey. As advertised. Booked for the tranquility and the fishing and it lived up to both. Facilities really good and far superior to what the reviews led me to believe. Would book Mallards Lodge again Thank you.

    never again

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay. Mallards Lodge is one of the very few lodges at Hartland Forest that enjoys spectacular views across the lakes uninterrupted by any other lodges. At dawn and dusk the view can be magical. We strive to maintain the lodge and its fittings in first class order and continually make improvements. Because of this we have repeat bookings covering a number of years.

The lodge although it looks like it is isolated is actually on a park with other lodges. The door entrance to the car park is up rather a steep slope so don't take wheelchair users! It had major cobwebs although bed linen was good. The garden was unkept and i couldnt let my small dog out as there was a huge gap in the decking which should have been a step into the garden but was in fact a very boggy area with a large drop.
