Extremely poor maintenance, even after I contacted the owner , nothing was done. I told him about the following. The fridge was mouldy and had to be cleaned before I dared to put anything in it. Freezer was frozen up solid, luckily I had no use for it. Cooker was greasy with burnt food on the rings and in the oven. The grill pan still had the remains of the last meal in it. The bathrooms, well !!! The shower had serious mould up the sides and in the tray. There was marks in the toilets, which I cleaned before any of use used them. There was hair and dust, tissue collected by the sinks and floor of both bathrooms. The cold tap in the bathroom did not work and the light in the shower room did not work. The lamp in the bedroom also had a blown build.Thankfully we were out during the days of our stay so had no cause to use the tickets and very grubby patio furniture. The decking and path to the front door were covered in moss and were very slippy. The kitchen window had dropped out of its frame and a gap allowed wind and rain in. I took my 81 year old father who suffers with dementia and Alzheimer's to what will probably be his last holiday. Not a good experience for him. No I will definitely never book with Mallards again.

My daughter stayed in Mallards Lodge whilst we stayed in Lodge 46. We were obviously spoilt as this lodge was welcoming and extremely cosy with many extras. Mallards was extremely basic, 12 lights bulbs were either not working or non-existent and it appeared that the electrical items had not been PAT tested for 3 years. My daughter would have liked to clean the carpets but the vacuum cleaner did not work. She paid about £85.00 more than we did for Lodge 46.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. I have contacted our maintenance man with the instructions to rectify any shortcomings. Mallards Lodge enjoys uninterrupted views of the lake and the island within it. The sunsets can be spectacular over the lake. Out of all the lodges at Hartland Forest, only four, or possibly five have an uninterrupted view of the lake. Holiday makers who enjoy views would be well advised to ensure that they book one of these lodges. I am arranging to stay in Mallards Lodge myself in the spring with the intention of making it at least as good as any other lodge on the site.
