Description

Macs House is a ideal for families, with a huge lawned garden, great for children to let of steam, Stokesay Castle and Berrington Hall both within easy reach.

Macs House is a delightful 100 year old, spacious, detached holiday property which has been significantly modernised and extended over the years. Ideal for family holidays, it is situated in a very peaceful and rural position on the Shropshire/Herefordshire border, a quarter of a mile down a farm track, surrounded by rolling fields, and a huge lawned garden, great for children to work off excess energy and perfect for dining al-fresco. This spacious house has four bedrooms in the main house and a further two bedrooms in a separate annexe, together with a games room. Walking is available from the house - indeed the Herefordshire Trail passes a few hundred yards away. In the nearby village of Bromfield, the Food Centre with a range of farm produce is well worth a visit, and just five miles away is the lovely market town of Ludlow, once described by Betjeman as ‘the most perfect town in England’. With its wonderful medieval and Georgian architecture, including a cathedral-sized parish church, ruined castle and local museum, Ludlow has much to offer the visitor including a wide range of places to shop or eat. Stokesay Castle at Craven Arms and Berrington Hall (NT) near Leominster are a short drive away, and both the Ironbridge Gorge and Severn Valley Railway, perfect for family days out, are within easy reach. The quirky town of Bishop’s Castle with its House on Crutches and variety of small shops tumbling down the high street is well worth a visit, as is Bridgnorth on the River Severn and the city of Hereford with its fascinating cathedral. Shops 6 miles.

The house is in a great location and good surroundings, but it is in a very poor state of repair. The games room is just unpleasant to be in, the house is in need of re-decoration and isn't well maintained. The handle fell of off the oven whilst it was just warming up and it was obvious that it had been glued on a number of different occasions and then we had a very rude women tell us that we were going to have to pay for it and hung up on us. We have never experienced such rude and arrogant behaviour. Not what you want to be doing on a weekend away, but If you stay here, take lots of pictures beforehand to use as evidence for any false accusations of damage. Also take candles & torches with you, as there was a power cut and when we spoke to the same women, we were told that it happens on a regular basis because of the remote location and we should keep the fire going to make sure we stayed warm and that was the end of her help!! A drive to the not so local garage and £25 later on torches and candles and a ruined evening could have been helped if the owner kept basic supplies for events like that. (to help the next set of unfortunate holiday makers, we have left matches and candles in the utility room!) A shame, as the house has real potential they just need to maintain it properly and reinvest some of the rental income back into bringing the standards up and invest in a customer services course for the women running it.

    Response from: administrator

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback. We would like to assure you that we do take your comments seriously however; we do refute the comment in regards to the power cut. These do not occur on a regular basis, they are a rare event, and the power in this instance was restored to the property within an hour. Candles and matches were in a cupboard in the kitchen ready for power failure. The handle on the oven door has now been repaired and to our knowledge, this is the first time that a customer has experienced any problems with it, we shall monitor it carefully. We shall be carrying out decoration to the games room in the New Year; it does experience a good deal of wear and tear.

We had a family meet up and found the games room was a real bonus and the grounds were good. It was not so easy to find suitable walks off road however.

Perfect for what we needed. Great location and plenty of room. Would work well in both the summer and the winter with a cosy living room and spacious garden.

Mac's House was a great place to stay. The communication was really good and everyone we spoke to was helpful. The scenery was beautiful! My only suggestion would be to get wifi there but otherwise would highly recommend!
