Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

This spacious apartment with modern decor provides an ideal location for exploring the delights of Robin Hood’s Bay.

Spacious, contemporary apartments

Dating back to 1897 this former captain’s house has been the family home of Great War escape hero Marcel Zillessen, portrayed in the film by James Garner. Lovingly converted into first, second and third floor apartments providing spacious and contemporary holiday accommodation. The apartments have their own designated garden/patio area and seating area ideal for al fresco dining. Robin Hood’s Bay is a charming and very popular fishing village just 6 miles south of Whitby. Split into two halves attracting visitors throughout the year. Quaint red roofed cottages cling to the cliff edge and the steep cobbled streets and alleyways all lead to a delightful sandy cove - children will delight in the rock pools and fossil hunting will pass the hours away. The charm and character of this stunning little bay is enhanced by the friendly locals who are happy to pass the time of day. There are museums, art galleries and a visit to Swells quirky cinema is an absolute must - but remember that film night is only once a week. Cliff top walks and cycling tracks abound in this area, and a visit to the ancient seaport of Whitby will not disappoint. Board the steam railway and take a memorable journey through the Esk Valley into Goathland, Heartbeat’s very own village. Robin Hood’s Bay has something for all the family at any time of year. Shops 250 yards, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

All on first floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. 2 bedrooms: 1 double (5ft), 1 twin. Shower room with toilet.

Both properties: Gas central heating, gas, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Two TVs (one Freesat). DVD and small library. Gas hob. Electricity oven. Microwave. Washing machine. Shared utility room with tumble dryers (on ground floor). Fridge/freezer. Patio with sitting-out area and furniture. Barbecue. On road parking (20 yards). Public car park (100 yards, at cost). We stayed in Apt1 which is on the ground floor. It has a small patio from the kithen. The apartment has everything you need and is quite spacious. It is slightly bigger than apt2 having a bath with shower. The house is right on the Cleveland Way and Cinder Track. Parking is on street and we were able to park 2 cars although not right outside. There is a walkway at the side of the house so we could lock up our bicycles in the back garden. Local amenities include shop, bistro, fish&chips and hotels with bars & restaurants. I don'the think we would visit the Victoria again. There is a Sainsbury's on the Whitby road. Finally the village itself is very pretty with a good atmosphere.

We enjoyed our stay and couldn't fault it on cleanliness, location etc. However, as I had previously commented on very minor niggles in the Visitor's book, I was puzzled at not being able to open the windows and because they were not double glazed the slightest bit of breeze meant that they rattled during the night. Also, although there were sufficient towels for the number of guests, the complete lack of a bathmat meant we made use of some of the hand towels for that.

We could not fault anything about Apartment 2. The kitchen is well equipped. The linen was clean. The double bed was very comfortable. Will stay there again!!

We have stayed here a few times now and also apartment 1. It is a great base in a beautiful place. The apartments are clean and well equipped. The only negative is the settee! When you want to curl up and watch the walkers going past on a wet day or relax after a long walk , its not the comfiest. This certainly won't put us off staying again though.

We had a lovely stay. The only negatives were the lack of some kitchen equipment eg grater, and the car parking.
