"Set in glorious countryside... not far from the Jurassic Coast"

Lancombe Country Cottages are set in three acres of glorious Thomas Hardy country, in the heart of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in west Dorset, close to the famous World Heritage Jurassic Coast, including the Chesil Beach. The six holiday cottages converted from old barns are set around an attractive courtyard, now a communal lawned area, are all well finished and equipped and provide a relaxing retreat after a day out sightseeing.
All are named after local rivers, offer comfortable accommodation and can be booked individually or together, depending on party numbers. Unwind in the 3 acres of grounds, relax in the heated indoor swimming pool (open every day), perhaps enjoy a sauna, or on a fine day, chill out with a barbecue in a pleasant setting overlooking beautiful Dorset countryside. These properties have been awarded a Dorset Silver Tourism Award for 2015.
Within easy driving distance visitors can explore the stunning Chesil Beach and Jurassic Coast, from Weymouth to the picturesque seaside resort of Lyme Regis, with its harbour and famous Cobb. Enjoy the many little seaside resorts, spectacular scenic coastal walks, fishing, swimming, fossil hunting and attractions such as Abbotsbury Swannery (where the swans may be fed) and Sub-Tropical Gardens, and Bennetts Water Gardens.
There are many historic houses and gardens to visit including Athelhampon House and Gardens, and Kingston Maurward Gardens and Animal Park, as well as family attractions such as Bovington Tank Museum, Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton, Monkey World at Wareham and the Sea Life Centre at Weymouth.
The bustling market and county town of Dorchester, 8 miles, with its 18th-century houses, shops, restaurants and market is worth a visit, as is Weymouth with its Georgian seafront, Blue Flag sandy beach and traditional seaside entertainment. Inland there is the famous Cerne Abbas Giant and the quaint historic abbey town of Sherborne. Enjoy golf, fishing, horse riding and go-karting locally. Convenience store on site. Shops and pubs 2 miles.

Open-plan beamed living/dining room and kitchen area with tiled floor. First floor: Double bedroom with four-poster bed. Single bedroom. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

Great accommodation in beautiful Dorset countryside location. It didn't feel claustrophobic with other guests around either. Caroline and her team were immensely helpful - especially in helping us celebrate Rosie's birthday. We'd go again!...

Nice cottage, but small though and bed very uncomfortable! Games room bit disappointing, very small and not much there. The advert makes out its a lot better than it is! No outside table and chairs to use either that ad also states!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your review. It is disappointing you felt the cottage was too small and the bed was uncomfortable, we have not received this feedback before for Lydden Cottage. Our Quality in Tourism assessments measure the ease of space in the accommodation and apply our star rating based on this. In addition, whilst the cottage only provides accommodation for three people, it has seating for four. It is unfortunate that whilst I checked on you twice during your week’s stay with us, you did not mention that you found the bed uncomfortable until the morning you departed. Due to guests differing firmness requirements with mattresses, we do have mattress toppers that I could have provided, which I am sure would have led to a much more comfortable week for you. Whilst it is a shame you felt the games room was disappointing, I have reviewed the description on our agents website, who you booked through, and the description states ‘shared games room with DVD and book library, games, air hockey table and Subbuteo football game’, all of which, coupled with up to date pictures of the games room, could not more accurately represent what is provided. With regards to your comments on the outdoor tables and chairs, the advertisement states that there is a ‘small patio with furniture’, which again accurately represents what is provided, as there is a small patio at the front of the cottages which face onto the courtyard with a bench, and a few yards from the back door there is also a large barbecue area, with picnic tables and benches to take in the beautiful views here at Lancombe. Whilst it is disappointing that your holiday did not meet your expectations, I do not feel that we could have been more transparent in how we advertise our accommodation and vast facilities here at Lancombe.

This place was ideal for us. Beautiful peaceful location. Our 4 year old daughter had a great time and Caroline and her team were so welcoming. Chicken feeding and egg collection was a big hit as was the fairy wood. Our daughter was delighted to receive replies to her letters to the fairies. Long may her innocence last! Indoor pool was a great temperature Only suggestion- outdoor swings and slides.
