This 17th century historic cottage was fully refurbished to a high specification and is set within its own large gardens in the peaceful valley of St Johns in the Vale. It nestles below the Helvellyn Ridge and enjoys delightful views of the tranquil fells of High Rigg, Skiddaw and Blencathra. It is the perfect base from which to explore the Central and Northern Lakes, with excellent walking and cycling from the door and many other outdoor activities are within easy reach. For less energetic days Keswick and Grasmere are nearby.

Ground Floor: Heated by central heating and comprising:
Lounge/diner: With Inglenook fireplace and multi-fuel stove (Initial logs provided), TV, DVD, CD/radio with i-pod dock, supply of DVD’s/CD’s, local walking guides and books.
Kitchen: With electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave.
External utility: With freezer, washer and dryer.
Bathroom: With shower over bath, WC, wash hand basin and heated towel rail.

    A great cottage let down by the beds. The double is only 4 foot 6 inches and has an appalling mattress offering no support whatsover. The mattresses on the twin beds were also very poor.

    Lovely 17th century cottage. Stunning location. However, felt could do with a little tlc, for example - dusty, garden overgrown - lots of nettles, bits of wood/ladders left in sight when look out kitchen window. Toilet roll holder fell off and curtain rails were so poor and flimsy couldn't open front door. The furnishings in the bedrooms were tired - lamps had small tears in. Bannister on staircase updated however left un-painted and not matching rest of is enormous and great if you have a dog. Fab walks from the door. It's such a shame that this stunning 17th century cottage with lovely traditional features is let down by the owners not giving it the tender loving care it deserves. Would stay here again, however would expect for some improvements to be made.

    Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your review. The cottage is located in a rural setting and as such the garden is a country garden and can appear overgrown round the perimeter, that the main area of the garden is regularly maintained. With regards to the toilet roll holder unfortunately we had been away on holiday ourselves the previous 2 weeks and had been informed by our cleaner that this was broken. When we spoke to yourselves on your departure we had come up to repair/replace this. Unfortunately whoever had broken the toilet roll holder had actually broken it in half making it difficult to remove it from the wall. This has now been replaced. The staircase has not been left un-painted, the wood which is in its natural colour has been varnished and is meant to be like this. The front door curtain rail had been bent and was repaired that weekend and are on our list to revisit during the quieter period when we can access the cottage ourselves to carry out any maintenance.

    An amazing week spent in the beautiful Lake District in a beautiful cottage....perfect for our family, young children adored the garden and location was spot on. Thank you!

    This is the third time we have stayed at this cottage the location is perfect for our needs - the only improvements would be a king size bed and more dishwasher tablets !

    Brilliant holiday but felt cottage was a little over priced. We have stayed in other cottages with the same amenities but quiet a lot cheaper
