An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Description

This cottage with pretty countryside views enjoys 25 acres of land and has its own stretch of the River Gilpin.

A superb, detached holiday cottage with a large, picture window and pretty countryside views, this extensively refurbished and redecorated former farmhouse provides an idyllic location in the stunning Gilpin Valley. It enjoys 25 acres of land and its own stretch of the River Gilpin with a stone bridge over the river. There are beautiful walks and cycle paths from the door, whilst the Lake District Fells such as The Langdale Pikes and the Old Man of Coniston are a short drive. Only 4 miles from Lake Windermere and Bowness with boutiques, galleries, tea rooms, pubs, watersports and ferries to Hawkshead, Coniston and the Grizedale Forest. Cruisers at Bowness offer trips round Lake Windermere, a more leisurely way to enjoy the wonderful scenery, calling at Ambleside to the north or Lakeside to the south to visit the fascinating Aquarium of the Lakes. Historic houses with lovely grounds such as Holker Hall and Sizergh Castle are nearby; don’t miss Muncaster Castle or the South Lakes Wild Animal Park at Dalton. Beatrix Potter, Wordsworth and other famous authors found the Lake District truly inspirational and there are many locations where their history and works are interestingly displayed. Nearby, the historic market town of Kendal has an art gallery, castle, theatre, larger shops and pretty walks along the River Kent. Whichever direction you walk or drive in this most beautiful area will bring you to breathtaking views of the lakes and mountains. Shops 3 miles, pub 1 mile.

Although the house is stunning as is the garden and views, on arrival there were dirty towels both in washing machine and laundry basket I did report this and the fact there was a broken armchair in games room. Despite being told laundry would be dealt with it wasn't! The house itself could do with a good clean you could write your name in the dust on the tv cabinet/ shelves etc in the lounge. Master bedroom sheet didnot fit and mattress very hard. I felt that for the money things could have been a lot better even had to go buy a frying pan as only one provided not enough for a large party. Having said all this it is a beautiful house and the surrounding countryside and Lakes are stunning. Maybe just a little more attention needed to make it the luxury house it is billed as. We would recommend and book again if issues were addressed.
