Stunning barn conversion which oozes quality throughout in a beautiful countryside location

Lovelady Shield comprises three, luxury holiday cottages situated around a delightful cobbled courtyard.
Located within the grounds of a superb country house hotel 2 miles from Alston, the location is superb. Alston is often described as "in the middle of nowhere, but central for everywhere" lying high up in the north Pennine hills on the borders of Cumbria, County Durham and Northumbria within easy reach of the Lake District, Hadrians Wall and the historic cities of Carlisle and Durham. All three properties are luxuriously appointed to appeal to the most discerning customers and the experience of staying here is quite unique. The hotel facilities are available to guests staying in the cottages, including free Wi-Fi, a first class restaurant, bar and lovely grounds. Food may be ordered from the bistro style menu and delivered to the cottage, or you may opt to have a casserole bubbling away in the oven for your arrival. A selection of reasonably priced wines are also available for consumption in the cottage. Ultimately you will enjoy the best of both worlds, your own self catering accommodation with restaurant facilities for that special treat. The area is truly tranquil with lovely views surrounding the grounds in a beautiful countryside setting surrounded by acres of farmland with numerous public footpaths for you to enjoy away from the crowds.

We stayed at this lovely cottage for a week at Christmas. There were 5 of us and a large dog. The cottage is beautiful and spacious just as the pictures showed. However as we had a dog, and the weather was wet, the first thing we noticed was there was no brush or mop and bucket to keep the entrance tiles into the kitchen clean, only a dust pan and brush! As we were very conscious about keeping on top of the cleanliness of the cottage having cream carpets throughout all the other rooms, we had to ask at the hotel if we could borrow a mop and bucket from them. The hotel receptionist seemed surprised that there wasn't one in the cottage but was very happy to lend us theirs. Actually a hoover would have been welcome as a week of not having one showed, and we would never go a whole week in our own home without quick vacuum! We also had to ask at the hotel for more pans and a colander (as the sieve was broken) and found there wasn't enough cooking equipment to prepare our Christmas lunch. On return I read other peoples reviews and found exactly the same comments about lack of equipment from last years and the years before visitors! This is such a fabulous cottage and we really enjoyed ourselves but it's the little finishing touches that would really help to make it very special and keep it clean for the next guests.
