This lovely old stone property was built in 1820 on the Dominitian Way and stands in beautiful gardens with mature trees and exotic plants. The accommodation is in two separate, self-contained units, ideal for two families holidaying together. The rooms have exposed stone walling and oak beams and the farmhouse-style dining room has an 18th-century stone fireplace. The holiday property is a short stroll from the historic and famous town centre of St. Rémy-de-Provence and the Monastère de St. Paul where Van Gogh lived for a year. Wander through the ancient alleyways, visit the bustling Wednesday market and the impressive Roman remains at Glanum on the way to Les Baux-de-Provence (7km). Nearby, Arles is renowned for its impressive variety of Roman and medieval monuments such as the 2000-year-old arena.

We were delighted with Lou Mas Di Rabassaire. The cottage was clean and extremely comfortable without being luxurious. The kitchen was well equipped. The electric 'hot-plate' BBQ worked well, but I never mastered BBQ slow-cooking on the searing hot plate! The bedroom layout is simple - one double and 2 twin bedrooms in the main cottage and a further double bedroom in the adjoining annexe (which has its own bathroom and kitchen). The pool was cleaned daily and the owners went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The pool is not fenced off, which might be an issue for families with very small children. Like many French towns and villages, there were a few stray cats who wandered into the garden searching for food and company. The main 'invader' - we called him Lawrence - was extremely friendly and ended up nudging us on the sunbeds! The cats are no problem if you like cats, but might be a nuisance if you are not a feline-lover.
