This was our first stay in Downderry but not in the area, which we think is one of the best parts of Cornwall. Loraine House is located up the hilly road and then the first right turn of a very narrow one car width road, a very short distance from the Blue Plate restaurant and the local convenience store. The beach at Downderry being a short walk away and the Seaton one about a five minute drive. The owner, we found a pleasure to deal with. Polite, helpful and accommodating, he also had arranged for a good quality bottle or red wine, some flowers and milk to await us on our arrival - a lovely touch. The house is reached via three flights of wooden stairs with two, wider landing type areas to break up the ascent/descent. Directly outside, Loraine House, is a one vehicle parking space. Tight to manoeuvre in to, but not too challenging once you get used to it. The external stairs we found not too difficult to deal with, but with small dogs to carry up and down each day, plus all our luggage to carry down and up on arrival and departure, if you are not physically fit, they may prove to be not your scene. The house itself is designed on an 'upside-down' basis, with the bedrooms and bathroom/toilet on the ground floor and the kitchen, lounge, second toilet, dining room and balcony area on the upper floor which you access first on your arrival. Washer-dryer is to be found on the ground floor. The property was very well equipped with items like a dishwasher, electric oven and hob, washer-dryer, fridge-freezer, Freeview Sony TV, DVD player, and an excellent wi-fi set up. It was scrupulously clean, in all areas. Two comfy sofas, double bed and attractive all round lighting enhanced the stay even further. The highlight of Loraine House has to be the balcony area. With quality table and chairs to sit out on, the views are absolutely stunning. A glass of wine or three taking in the outstanding beauty of the sea at sunset is a marvellous way to spend your early evenings. There is a small fenced garden area which can be directly accessed via the main bedroom. Most welcome with dogs to let out in the morning and an additional option to using the balcony to sit out on. Stairs going down to the 'high street' can be accessed from there, too. Downsides? Not many. As stated earlier, the main outer stairs can prove tiring, but are not too much of an issue to the relatively fit. Bear in mind, the balcony area is partly overlooked/underlooked by The Loft - holiday property next door to the left and the owner's property below it. The owner of The Loft did knock on our door later on one evening to remind us to not leave the balcony light on overnight (we did so in error the night before) setting our dogs off. An earlier reminder would have been appreciated. In our experience, we can only strongly recommend Loraine House to others - particularly dog owners. Dog friendly, superbly equipped and within minutes of splendid, dog-friendly beaches, it offers everything most people would need to have a really enjoyable holiday. We hope to visit again.
