English Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Perfect location for a family of all ages, with plenty of attractions for all.

Dating from the 17th century, this Grade II listed Yorkshire longhouse was a traditional working farm until 1997. Sympathetically renovated with great care and attention to detail, this unique holiday property adjoins the owner’s single-storey study and retains the charm of a bygone era alongside high specification modern-day facilities including smart TVs. There are open beams in abundance, an original range fireplace; stone flagged floors, period furniture and sumptuous furnishings throughout. This spacious farmhouse is ideal for couples and extended family gatherings, where celebration meals can be enjoyed around the dining table beside the wood-burning stove. A delightful spiral staircase leads from the ground floor bedroom to a mezzanine library, where guests can curl up with a good book. Wheelchair users and disabled guests are warmly welcomed and carefully provided for - the cottage meets the M3 National Accessibility Scheme criteria. Enjoy the private fold yard and grounds where there are two wildlife ponds and extensive views towards the Hambleton Hills. This is a popular area for walking and cycling with numerous footpaths in the area and beautiful countryside in the Vale of York and the North Yorkshire Moors. The famous steam train departs from Pickering and transports visitors to the ancient fishing port of Whitby, renowned for its Captain Cook connections, miles of sandy beach and delicious fish and chips! Visit Eden Camp modern history theme museum, abbey ruins at Byland and Rievaulx, and stately homes at Castle Howard and Nunnington Hall. There are quaint market towns at Malton and Helmsley, pretty villages at Hovingham and Coxwold, and many traditional inns and gourmet pubs offering generous Yorkshire hospitality. Historic York (26 miles) appeals to all ages with its exquisite architecture, magnificent minster, museums, art galleries, river boat trips and ghost walks. Shop 5 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Longhouse (IYZ) can be booked with neighbouring Ashpit Cottage (IUN) to accommodate up to 8 guests.

We have stayed in this part of Yorkshire a number of times but the Longhouse was the best accommodation by far. The warm welcome and support during our stay was excellent. I sincerely hope we can stay at the Longhouse again.

A beautiful location and cottage to spend a week in. The location is rural but ideally placed to explore many local attractions such as Dalby Forest and the coast. We were greeted with a warm welcome by the owner who was lovely and keen to make us feel immediately at home. The house is delightful and very unique. It has been painstakingly updated and a great deal of care and attention has been taken to create an original and very authentic interior - I adored the reading area accessed via a spiral staircase. The garden is huge and lovely for the children to play in situated alongside a farm where all the animals were roaming about. An idyllic location and property which we enjoyed enormously.

This is one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in - a lovely setting, beautifully furnished, very comfortable and so well equipped. The owner Dorothy could not have been more helpful, friendly and considerate

The main reason for booking this property was for the facilities for those with limited mobility and these met and exceeded our expectations. From the welcome pack , the 5 star hotel rated bedding ,linen and toiletries to the immaculate cleanliness it's a 10/10

A beautiful big cottage, giving so much room for our party to spread out and then some! The disabled facilities were fantastic for my Mum and the warm welcome and quality of the property made it a holiday to remember. We chose this property from the pictures and description on the internet but this no way did it justice and the bonus of the conservatory at the bottom of the garden was an additional extra we did not expect, allowing us to watch the wildlife - deers, owls and bats as the sunset. There were no local amenities within walking distance, but this was our choice, for us the location was perfect, close to Pickering if we needed shopping, but gave us the peace and quiet to recharge our batteries and we would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of booking - you wont be disappointed and we will definitely return.

The Longhouse far exceeded our expectations, a beautifully renovated and decorated holiday home, which, as many reviewers have already indicated, feels like a home from home. Exceptionally, and thoughtfully equipped and warmly and generously hosted by Dorothy. We certainly hope to return next year to enjoy Longhouse and the beautiful area.
