Did have lovely time at the cottage, very well equipped with all that we could possibly need for our holiday. Cottage and grounds lovely, bit remote if we didn't have a car. Walked to local hotel and Spar shop but that was all there was within walking distance. Would stay in that area again but perhaps somewhere with a bit more shops, restaurants etc.

One of 3 linked holiday homes, in large grounds so not intruding on one another, good location, splendid views. Of its time (80's), would have been trendy but now tired and needing updating and refreshing. Upstairs accommodation in the roof with rooflights - good for kids but adults keep your heads down!

We were e mailed the week before to say that we were not guaranteed wifi, ( we booked the cottage because it had wifi) wifi wasn't good, the best place was sat in the window. The owner phoned me and said she had problems at the cottage but we were an hour away, the cooker wasn't working.. we arrived at 5.30/6.00pm as she wanted more time. The cooker/ oven didn't work for the whole time we were there, the owner provided a hob and a halogen type oven the day after. Paperwork stated that there was a telephone in the cottage, there wasn't. The heating was either on full or off, we tried turning numerous radiators down but this didn't work. House was dusty. Door to patio area from bedroom didn't unlock so is a fire hazard. Steps down to cottage were covered in moss and were slippy. There was a bag of make up left in a bedroom cupboard along with a strip of tablets in a bedside drawer. There were tissues an crumbs down the sides of the sofas. We were asked to not use the washing machine as it was on the same main as the oven, we were offered use of the main house one but it would have meant staying with it. All in all an expensive time as we ate out to save the hassle.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; I am very sorry and upset indeed that you were unhappy with your experience at Loch Alsh Cottage. During my several visits you had every opportunity to advise me otherwise. Generally, the wifi works well however one may experience a slower bandwidth being a rural area. I use it in Loch Alsh Cottage often for high level projects so require reliability and don't have an issue. I telephoned you in advance to advise there was a fault with the oven. I was held back as I'd been trying to get an electrician as mine was on holiday. I identified another Cottage in Wester Ross further north and advised that cottages.com could relocate you, but you insisted you'd manage fine without the cooker and decided to come to Loch Alsh Cottage. The fault with the oven was I suspected a short in the clock. As it was blowing fuses on the same circuit i.e. the hob and washing machine I did ask you not to use them. Alternative cooking appliances (a small and a large slow cooker and crock pot, and a high spec combination oven with grill and microwave) were provided. The day after your arrival, I made a 70 mile trip plus return to purchase and provide a portable dual hob and a Halogen Oven. The main Laundry is available to all Cottages’ as an alternative with large machines ideal for outdoor clothes etc. It is literally next door to Loch Alsh Cottage and guests are not asked to stay during washing / drying cycles. The French doors in the bedroom had recently been freed up by the joiner as it swells in the winter but I have noted it was still slightly stiff which has been addressed. As there is an individual dedicated smoke alarm in the bedroom I can assure it's not a fire hazard especially with double patio doors adjacent. The Housekeeper is thorough in her cleaning of the Cottage's and on this occasion I also assisted. On each changeover the sofas are stripped hoovered and new freshly washed and ironed covers placed. I did this personally so where a tissue escaped from I've no idea. In respect of the heating I'm pleased that it was warm as its important guests have such comforts. As for regulating I indicated that the clock runner could be set at On / Off, Timed. Once etc. or simply switched on and off at the Master to suit your own needs. The West Coast is naturally a very wet area and this had been extreme in recent weeks. The slabbed pathway is flat and when dry, is absolutely fine whilst the small incline is scrubbed prior to arrival. I cannot account for the surface during wet weather or the dirt / dust that carries in. It's a highly rural environment surrounded by National Trust land and walks. The paperwork you received from cottages.com stating there is a phone is incorrect I will advise. I trust I have fully explained the facts of the matter and apologise most profusely that such circumstances prevailing and how I met those challenges on an Easter weekend fell short of your expectations.
