Description

A pretty thatched cottage with characterful beams nestling by the village green, just 3 miles from Wallingford.

Little Thatchings is a classic South Oxfordshire thatched cottage nestled in its own garden with secret seating areas and small orchard, just off the village green. It has been delightfully furnished in ‘Arts and Crafts’ style and has a wealth of original beams (some of which are low) - with some originating from ships of the Spanish Armada which were broken up at The Wharf just down the road. Surrounded by beautiful walks, this detached holiday cottage is a short distance from the River Thames and thatched village pub from which to watch the cricket on the green. This village is famous as a filming location for ‘Midsomer Murders’ and is a wonderful base from which to explore Oxford, Blenheim Palace, Henley, Windsor, Stratford, The Cotswolds, or even London. There are numerous gastro pubs and restaurants in the surrounding villages and small towns. Wallingford, 3 miles away, has a market, a farmers market, large supermarket, antique shops and restaurants. Or take a walk from your own front door down the old Roman road and across the water meadows to Dorchester Abbey which hosts a fine season of classical music. For small children there are two village playgrounds and the green provides a large area for ball games. Shop and pub 300 yards.

Beautiful cottage, great location, garden was lovely if a little wild. 2 of us stayed with dog was cosy. Lack of stair gate was challenging as far too warm with Aga to shut dog in kitchen at nights. Overall a charming place and a friendly village with welcoming pub..

Had a lovely week at Little Thatchings. Beautiful cozy cottage which is steeped in history being 600 years old. Amazing cottage garden which was enclosed and safe for our dog. Within a stone's throw from the village green, handy local shop and the great pub, the Six Bells, which serves very good food and is dog friendly. Loads to do in the area, fantastic walks on your doorstep and close to Oxford. The quaint market town of Wallingford is only 3 miles away and has a large Waitrose supermarket as well as a market. Will definitely return, thank you for a memorable holiday.

If you are looking for a real English country cottage look no further, this is it! It is picture postcard perfect. The location is great and Warborough is a lovely village. Being a cottage means that the interior feels a bit dark and the low ceilings make it feel a bit small as. But that is to be expected in a cottage. It has al mod cons and a lovely garden too. We had a great stay in this quirky cottage!
