Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Set over four levels, this spacious property is perfectly poised for fabulous sea views and sunsets, and lies close to a myriad of attractions.

Set on the promenade, with uninterrupted views across stunning Morecambe Bay to a backdrop of Lakeland hills and the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Little Gem enjoys stunning sunrises and sunsets in high summer, as well as breathtaking cloudscapes around dawn and dusk. This fantastic terraced property, over four floors, offers beautifully presented and very well appointed, spacious and comfortable accommodation. There are two good-sized en-suite bedrooms that benefit from superb sea views, and a south-facing sun room that opens onto a decked terrace.

In the summer months there are many events in or around Morecambe, including the Holker Garden Festival (June), the Catch the Wind Festival (July), Morecambe Sandcastle Festival (July), Heysham Classic Car and Bike Show (August), Morecambe Vintage by the Sea Festival (September) and the Westmorland Agricultural Show at Crooklands Showground (September). Walking or cycling is a joy along the 4½-mile seafront to the pretty village of Heysham, itself well worth a visit with its ancient St Patrick’s Church, mysterious 10th-century rock tombs and pretty harbour setting. There are cycle paths galore in the area from the town centre into the heart of Lancaster and beyond, or enjoy a quiet pootle along the canal towpath. For the more ambitious, there is the Morecambe Bay Cycleway, set up and run by Sustrans, running over 100 miles from Walney Island to Glasson Dock. Walkers can enjoy a guided cross bay walk, or alternatively Morecambe is within 45 minutes of stunning Lakeland and Dales scenery. Close by there is an 18-hole golf course, and plenty of welcoming country pubs within easy reach of Morecambe to enjoy a drink by the scenic Lancaster canal or River Lune. For children, there are beaches, swing parks and the noted Happy Mount Park, with a children’s play area and extensive water splash zone. Para-sailing can also be enjoyed on most days at the westerly end of the promenade, and sailing ‘taster’ sessions with the Morecambe Sailing Club.

In Morecambe centre there is a bowling alley, cinema and evening entertainment at the Platform venue. The famous Art Deco Midland Hotel is also well worth a visit for a special occasion. The historic and vibrant city of Lancaster, 4 miles, oozes Georgian character and charm with its ancient priory church, castle and museums, theatres and many places to eat. Lancaster also has a vibrant street market on Saturdays with street food and myriad other interesting stalls.
The popular market town of Kirkby Lonsdale is 16 miles, and for fabulous scenery and walks, why not try picturesque Arnside and Sandside, 14 miles? Historic Sunderland Point is 8 miles, whilst across the river, Condor Green and Glasson Dock are 9 miles: both remnants of a bygone era, one famous as a smugglers’ haunt, the other a failed attempt to establish itself as a busy port for the export of Yorkshire coal to Ireland and the west coast of England. With so much to see and do, Little Gem really is the perfect base for a relaxing holiday. Shop 150 yards, pub ½ mile, restaurant ¾ mile.

Wonderful cottage very well fitted and presented with views out of windows to die for. Lovely garden although as we were here in Jan/Feb weather to bad to use but in summer would have been wonderful to sit in. As we are in our 70s the only down side was the stairs to the kitchen but only a minor inconvenience . The owners couldn't be more helpful.

We had a lovely time here and were made to feel very welcome. Morecambe exceeded expectations as a holiday destination. The top floor has stunning views across the bay.

This was a fantastic cottage only let down by the stairs down to the kitchen. This was more a failing on our part as we are older. Younger folk should not find it a problem.

Little Gem lives up to its name (although few people would think it little). It is one of the most generously and thoughtfully equipped properties we have ever stayed in. The owners are really friendly and helpful and went out of their way to ensure the house was warm and welcoming. Every room has something to offer, and the garden is very sweet with excellent outside sitting space if the weather allows. We were in the area for family reasons so did not do much sight seeing, but having Little Gem as a base was fantastic. A true home from home.

Little Gem & Morecambe was a good base for exploring Lancashire, the Lakes and parts of Yorkshire. The cottage was great, very comfortable, equipped with everything you could need

The most perfect place we have ever stopped at. Comfortable, spacious and beautiful surroundings. Everything supplied that you could possibly need. This was our second visit and we would love to go back again.

This holiday terrace home is a trip down memory there is lots and lots of items from years gone by (nick nacks)some people would call it clutter i say a trip down memory lane is a nicer way to describe it ,but there is a fair bit of personal stuff all over.the house is on 4 levels the basement is the kitchen ,ground floor is lounge area ,one up is double bedroom ensuite, too floor twin ensuite ,3 very narrow stairways to cope with definitely not for people with knee problems or are a bit unsteady on their feet .The house was well equipped .

We were fortunate to have hot, sunny weather and so had wonderful views over Morecambe Bay. The property is convenient for walks along the sea front but the area is in need of regeneration. Good starting point for visiting the southern Lake District.
