Lovely location and well equipped. It just didn't suit us because of the size. It wasn't as clean as we expected either.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I am very sorry and disappointed that your stay with us didn't fulfil your expectations. I take great pride in the cleanliness of Little Gate House as the reviews show. The score never falls below a 9 and is more often than not a 10 out of 10. I spring clean the property every time I clean it whether guests have stayed for 3 nights or for a week or more. As I explained to you before your stay, we were going away ourselves for the weekend on your day of your arrival so a lady I have used several times before came in to do the changeover for you. I wish you had given me your feedback about her cleaning to me in person during your stay rather than leaving us a below average review online. I need to know if the cleaning falls short when I am unable to do it myself. I have not had any complaints before about the lady I used, but I do apologise if the property was not left a clean as I or you would like. I find your comment about the size of Little Gate House a bit confusing because in the guest book you wrote "We were pleasantly surprised by the space inside - we had expected it to be more compact." It is a small cabin style forest dwelling and we have used the name of the property, wording and photographs in the property description to let people know that it isn't very big, but ideal for couples. Fortunately the large majority of our guests find this feature charming and endearing. I am glad that you found the property well equipped, although again am confused that you then only scored it a 5 for this.

Had a pleasant weeks stay at the little gate house. Nice walks from the cottage and enjoyed visiting the surrounding area. Hired some bikes from burley which I would recommend. Loverly touch of fresh eggs left one morning.

Whilst a challenge to find it is the first time we have said we would love to have stayed longer. We loved the visits by the young kestrel ,woodpeckers and deer. The view from the veranda is lovely and the walks from the front door most enjoyable

We booked this quaint cottage knowing its location. It is a great place to venture out from with good walks and bike rides right on the door step. On arrival we were greeted with cookies and some fresh eggs from owners chickens. The views are beautiful with the paddocks, deer walking past every night. nice lttle piece of history surrounds the little gate house. Local pubs serving great beers and food. I can honestly say it was one of the best holidays i have been on. Bill and Sharon

Barely enough room to get around the bed in the bedroom. My partners initial thoughts were that we should cut our losses and get a hotel somewhere else. The road to access the property was atrocious with potholes almost as big as craters, again partner not happy about damaging his car. It is a very quiet rural location with beautiful views but fully overlooked by the owners property. We always take toilet paper 'just in case' but we have never needed it in our 5/6 cottages a year but we did this time. Very expensive for the size of property.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; I have only just seen your review this morning and feel extremely disappointed as we really care that our guests have a lovely holiday in our beautiful corner of The New Forest. It is the lowest score out of 10 that we have received in the 6 years that we have been running The Little Gate House (the lowest score to date being 8/10, but more often than not receive 10/10). I had to employ a cleaner to do the changeover for you. I left her a comprehensive check list on an A4 piece of paper that is kept inside the cleaning bag and one of the things on this list is to remember to leave out toilet roll. I am sorry that she forgot to do this. The property is described as being 'off the beaten track' as we live in the middle of The New Forest National Park. I have found that guests usually phone and ask me about this if it causes them concern and I have often said that this isn't the property to come to if your car is your pride and joy and you don't want to get it dirty. In the summer when the track dries up we pay to keep it maintained, but this is not possible in the wet months of the winter. We live on a track which has two ends. Our property is 0.5 mile from one end and 0.2 mile from the other (which is the way we always use). Unfortunately Sat Navs always bring people up the longest part of the track which is in worse condition than the other end. I will then normally advise guests after they have arrived to come in and out the other way. I am sorry if I did not see you in time to explain this. However, I would describe the pot holes exactly as such and not craters. It just requires to be driven slowly. One thing I must add though is that our house definitely does not over look The Little Gate House. This comment has really shocked me! Our bungalow is 100m away from The Little Gate House at the other end of our drive and the only room that has a window that looks down towards The Little Gate House is our kitchen. So if you look up towards our bungalow from The Little Gate House all you will see are the garage doors and a kitchen window which is not a window that we sit at and look through. Our house actually faces south and all of the windows either look down across our land or out the back and none have a view of The Little Gate House whatsoever. The Little Gate House is described as being compact and cosy and only suitable for 2 people, which indicates that it is a small property. When we designed it we decided to make the living areas as large as possible because at the end of the day all you do is sleep in a bedroom. I am so very disappointed that you clearly did not have a good stay with us. It does upset me as most guests absolutely love it, but unfortunately they do not always leave a review. For example, our guests with us this week have been blown away by the outstanding location of The Little Gate House and how clean it is etc. They have been up to see us to say that before they leave they want to book to come back again in the summer. The guests before them who arrived on 20th February for their 20th wedding anniversary left us a comment in the guest book thanking us for the bottle of Prosecco that we left for them and that they could not have found anywhere more perfect to celebrate their anniversary.
