Description

A quaint barn once owned by Henry VIII but now providing perfectly placed holiday accommodation for visiting the Criccieth area.

These detached, converted barns (refs OK7 and OK8) are located in the hills between Pentrefelin and Criccieth, with spectacular views out to sea. From the garden, guests can enjoy wonderful 360 degree views of Cardigan Bay, together with a picturesque backdrop of the Snowdonia Mountain range. These 500-year-old cottages, once owned by Henry VIII, have been lovingly restored by the owners to provide beautiful holiday accommodation. Little Barn (OK8) is equipped with a hot tub for exclusive use, which is ideally positioned to enjoy the stunning views over Cardigan Bay and the mountains. These are idyllic cosy and romantic cottages. This is an ideal location for walkers, bird watchers and golfers, with many activities just on the doorstep, including horse riding, fishing, climbing and sailing, being located just 10 minutes from Pwllheli Marina and having a spectacular golf course and fishing lake within walking distance from the properties. These properties are also popular with artists, due to the spectacular views and abundance of light. With many lovely walks from the doorstep, as well as the beaches at Criccieth and Black Rock Sands at Morfa Bychan all within easy reach. Criccieth has a good selection of restaurants and pubs, and Criccieth Castle, standing proud over the bay, is well worth a visit. In the other direction is Porthmadog, home to the famous Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland railways. Portmeirion is close by, and the mountain ranges of northern Snowdonia, the village of Llanberis and the Llyn Peninsula are also within easy reach. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting. Absolutely perfect place to relax and enjoy the lovely views. We would definitely stay again but not as a family as the sofa bed downstairs wasn't comfortable for me but that's the only negative, everything else was perfect.

Little Barn and the grounds are just lovely, both us and the dogs found it to be a wonderful home from home. The views are really spectacular and the barn is a wonderful cosy space to relax in, especially the hot-tub which is covered in the Summer House. We found the location to be great as a base and there are lots of supermarkets/amenitites nearby, although this wasn't needed as Tesco delivered straight to the door! Cricceith is a lovely village to walk to with the dogs and we found black rock sands to be the best beach for the dogs (and watching the sunset). There was so much to do - Zip World, Segway, Paintballing, Coed y Brenin Forest Park all within an hours drive! The Barn was very clean and had a good supply of kitchen utensils and equipment and although the kitchen space is quite small it is sufficient for 2-4 people. Towels and dressing gowns were provided to use during the stay (which we were very grateful for after getting out of the hot-tub). We would definitely stay again.

Beautifully scenic. Hot tub was lovely. Criccieth and surrounding area was gorgeous with plenty of amenities. Highly recommend Dylan's restaurant. Shame when we arrived at the property it appeared the cleaners had not attended/done a very good job as there was dog hair everywhere (beds/bath/sofa/rug/mugs!), dog biscuits in the second room (on the floor and in/on the bed). We arrived with an exhausted 2 year old and 5 month old baby and had to spend the evening cleaning, not ideal. Hats off to the owner who very promptly got cleaners out to us Saturday and seemed genuinely shocked and upset. Personally wouldn't rate as a family friendly home due to the second room being downstairs near the front door, and the bathroom being on suite to the second room; hated leaving my son on his own, downstairs, near the door, and having to tip toe through to the bathroom, but definitely a personal preference. Still we enjoyed the location, and had a fantastic holiday.

Cottage is lovely, but too small for a family of four. Bedrooms have enough space, but not enough space in the living area. Also having to go through the children's bedroom to use the bathroom is not ideal. Beautiful view from outside the cottage, but inside there are so few/little windows, it's a bit like living in a cave and have no idea what the weather is even doing. Kitchen area is very cramped, again, not ideal for a family of four and would be more suited to a couple, we ate out most nights because of this. Hot tub was great. We would really have struggled with the indoor space if the weather had not been kind to us and we were able to be outside a lot. Overall we had a nice stay, but would return with our family (2 X adults 11yrs and 13yrs).
